You may need to get official transcripts from your university sent to the university or college you wish to attend.

I don't think you need to start at high school, but community college would be a great place to start. You probably need US government and history (which would be cheaper at a community college than at a university) and you probably don't need to wait on your transcripts to take at least those four classes. You will probably need an entrance exam to evaluate.

If you get an associates degree from the community college, you may need your foreign transcripts less and less. You will still need access to them and will probably need several copies, but this will probably be the easiest way to transition.

Doubtful you'd restart back in high school....they will assess your current credits and yes....you may have some additional credits to pick up at university or community college in order to meet a particular degree's requirements but that's the mostly likely scenario - you may lucky enough that your credits transfer 1 for 1 and you aren't behind at all!

Make sure you have several copies of your current university transcript to bring along and you may well be able to engage the university you plan to apply to now to start researching what may be required, I'm sure they have offices to email for new students coming from a foreign country.

My wife has a BA in education and a MS in elementary education. She had her transcripts evaluated through WES (World Education Services). She had WES send the official evaluation of her transcripts to the community college she attended. They accepted most things for transfer. She had to request some things be waived. At the school where she now attends for getting her RN degree, they TOTALLY accepted the evaluation of transcripts from WES because that was one of the two sources they use.

It has been good for her since she arrived here having had WES evaluate her transcripts. You might want to make sure who to contact at the schools you attended to get official transcripts sent directly from those schools if the school you wish to attend in the future asks for that as well. Make sure you have their address and phone number while you are in country, because sometimes it can be hard to get that information once you are here in the USA.

My wife used her previous degrees to go into the Air Force at a higher rank. Then when she began to persue her nursing degree she was able to eliminate a lot of courses because she already had those. She is older now, at 41, and doesnt want to be in school forever, so she is going to just settle with the BS in Nursing for now. And rather than getting a masters in nursing, she intends to get a PhD. She thought it would be fun to be a nurse and called "doctor".
