In Colorado you need to be a LPR for 5 years to get regular Medicaid.

A LPR in this case has a sponsor should the financial situation require it.

No, I was told after the emergency had occurred . I did not ask in advance In Florida state those on b1/2 visas or vwp are not permitted to use emergency Medicaid

I suppose tourist visas are the exception. Everybody else can (at least here in TX.)

In several states that IS the case. Did Colorado extend Medicaid coverage?

It does NOT matter before the green card is granted. Medicaid, WIC, CHIP, Food Stamps, etc. are not cash assistance, and are not considered for public charge purposes.

this is wrong, they are ABSOLUTELY means tested benefits

When applying for healthcare for dad-in-law through the state ACA it specifically asked if he was not eligible for Medicaid. I don't remember how it was worded but yeah he was excluded because he had not been an LPR for five years. We could have lied of course but then who knows what would have happened.

In Florida it's not allowed:

Medicaid Qualifications for Non-Citizens with Medical Emergencies

Non-citizens are not eligible for standard Medicaid coverage. However, non-citizens who are not in the US for a temporary reason (such as vacation or business travel) are eligible to receive Medicaid coverage for emergency care only. For more information, contact the Florida Department of Children and Families.

I know this is a little old thread, but I am worried about the same thing too. I did a lot of research on Medicaid before I applied for health care through NY state of health last year, and NY state of health wanted me to have Medicaid. At first I thought I couldn't get it because I hadn't been a permanent resident for 5 years yet (not yet as of now either). But then I learned that NY state medicaid is fine. But today I found out that my health plan was changed to Fidelis Care Essential Plan 4, and when I looked it up it turned out to be a plan for those who don't qualify for Medicaid because of immigration status, and this one is ok for those who haven't been a permanent resident for 5 years. However, it is a Medicaid-based plan. So my understanding is that THIS is the STATE Medicaid, and the one I had for almost two years was Medicaid that included federal fund?? I applied for ROC last May and I'm still waiting for their reply. It seems like many people who applied to Vermont Center received 7 months after applying, so I am hoping I will get mine next month; at the same time I am scared that I might have been having Medicaid with federal fund and this might be affecting my ROC application. Also worried that my husband and/or our joint sponsor might have to pay back all the money that was covered by Fidelis Care..?? (I had Fidelis Care through Medicaid. Is this a state-only medicaid in the first place??) I see that some people here had Medicaid and still got ROC and Naturalization approved, but was it regular Medicaid or state-only Medicaid??

Thank you in advance for your help!

Since I applied for health insurance through NY state of Health, I thought my Medicaid was NY state Medicaid already.

Have no idea what's going on today, about a week ago, our local newspaper had headlines, this is the last day to sign up for health insurance, if you don't will be fined on your tax returns. They claim your premiums are based on your income, we and all of my family members are above the poverty wage so have to pay the maximum.

All I know about this so-called affordable healthcare act, is nothing but affordable, not only for us, but all of our family members. Both premiums and that deductible skyrocketed, and would also had a family deductible that once reached, the rest of the family was free, also history. Now each family member has to reach their own high deductible. Son just called me, youngest grandkid has to see the doctor, was another 900 bucks out of his pocket, even though they met the family deductible. Really doesn't take that long for each member to hit it for what they charge today, even for a short five minute visit.

In brief, this crazy affordable healthcare act is nothing like affordable. Not even sure about Medicaid anymore, but have this idea they are trying to get rid of it.
