During my husband's visa interview we were notified that our marriage certificate although it was the long form, it had not been legalized and that we'd have to send that in with passport if approved. However, upon interviewing us and approving his visa the CO decided to take our passport then and told us not to worry about the marriage certificate. My question is, will not having the signed sticker on the back of the long marriage certificate which shows it is legalized affect him at all at his point of entry (JFK)? Also, what exactly do they look at when entering for the first time?

Reading your timeline I see that you have your visa in hand, The only thing they ask for at JFk is the sealed packet that was given to you when they gave you back your passport with the visa in it. They ask for nothing else besides your spouses fingerprints.

They briefly scan through the packet, (not sure what they look for), stamp your passport and validate your visa, within the stamp they write what type of visa it is.

You should be in and out of JFk within 45 minutes to a hour after you land. We got lucky and was in and out of the airport in less than 30 minutes from the time we landed.

Congratulations!!!

Hope you bought him a coat its gonna be cold here next week :D

Thank you :). Everyone keeps telling me about the cold lol, I feel bad for him a bit in that sense. I'm from Massachusetts, I'm used to it, but thankfully his family is picking us up and bringing him a sweater or coat lol.
