Hi vjers!

I filed my AOS in april after coming in march with a K1. I received a RFE by mail today stating I need to have a medical done by a civil surgeon.

I'm quite puzzled because I was sure the K1 medical was good for 1 year. Is it something different?

How expensive are civil surgeon? (im in upstate NY)

thank you

I would start calling too, but not to USCIS - i would start calliing around, trying to figure out who is the cheapest civil surgeon in my area.. because there's really nothing you can do about this but response to RFE...

Yes, you are right, K1 medical is good for year and I understand how you feel right now.. I wasn't "excited " either, re -doing my medical and paying for this again, but... Your application can be easily denied if you fail to comply with the request on and before date it says.

You received RFE and there is a good news in this too - your case has been touched ;) Hopefully the new medical is the only thing they need.. Just sent in what they want and most likely you will have your AOS approval soon ; )

Good luck!!!!

Prices can very. It might be from $150 to $300 if it's just civil surgeon service. But along with TB test and possible vaccination.. When you call, try to figure out everything possible and the main - if they do everything at ONE place. Sometimes the cheapest place can provide only paper work, but for test and vaccination you have to go/drive to different place. Also what kind of TB test they do.. if it's QuantiFERRON TB test , the price can be around $150 just for this ..

The tests are Not a problem, because I had all Of them done (even quantiferon) in June before starting a biological treatment for my arthritis. And the tests were done in the State so I don't think they would deny them. I guess I'm gonna have to suck it up and pay. Immigration is such a rip off... Every penny they can suck out of you they will....
