Okay, so like I mentioned in an earlier post, my husband has his interview on Monday, March 19th. His medical is March 5th.

Here are a few questions:

How does the medical info get to the embassy (by mail?) What if the embassy doesn't get it by the interview time?

How long is the average time from interview to visa in hand?

Can my husband travel back with me right after he receives his visa?

Any last minute preparation suggestions for the interview? (We have thousands of pictures, wedding pix, honeymoon, miscellaneous; we have thousands of emails to and from each other and family, we have gifts, cards, I have more paystubs and bank statements, etc)

Thanks for your help!

1) Consulate specific

2) Consulate specific

3) YES, visa is valid from the moment it is issued and placed in passport

YMMV

Thank you... I guess I was hoping to hear from other people's experiences.

Thank you... I guess I was hoping to hear from other people's experiences.

But what happens in Kiev, London or Montreal has no bearing on what is the procedure for you.... this is a question for the consulate....

Some consulates the medical is mailed, some consulates the beneficiary picks up at the medical center and carries it in.... so it is consulate specific

Sone consulates issue the visa the same day and you walk out with it, some consulates require you to stay and pick it up later in the day or the next day, some consulates will only mail or overnight it.... so it is consulate specific.

I appreciate your responses. I understood you the first time and I understood you the second time. Again, I guess I was just hoping to hear other people's experiences (being that the embassy does NOT answer any of our questions). I also asked about interview preparation. Lots of info. from lots of sources can never hurt...

My husband (fiance at the time) had his medical scheduled two weeks before his interview. The first time he went they asked a few questions, I assume they took a few tests, but he never made that clear and then they told him to come back in a week. The second time he went they talked some more, did the exam and gave him a sealed envelope along with his lung xray to take to the Embassy. He was not given ant copies of anything for himself. He then took every thing to the embassy at his interview and they included the medical info in the sealed pack they gave him to take to America.

His interview was on a Thursday and he got his VISA the following Wednesday. He flew out that Friday.

I was at the interview with him, but had to fly home before he got his VISA. I think being there helped, but they will not actually let you go in with him. They see Americans from 2-4 and so I went in at two and then just sat and waited with him. Luckily his interview didn't occur until 3.

The interview was scheduled at 9, but they only took his documents and money at that time and told him to come back at 1. He then waited until 3 to have his interview. For one hour we sat within 5 feet of the interview window (they interview you at a window in front of everybody) The interviewers were able to see us cuddling and talking during that time. They would not let me go to the window, but I could hear everything and did actually chime in one time. His interview lasted all of 5 minutes. They asked how we met, and he proceeded to tell our whole relationship story and then they asked to see the pictures. I had two small photo alblums with pictures of us and at the end pictures of my dog. They asked who a little boy was in one of the pictures (his cousin's kid) and about the dog and then said he was approved. I think having photos with more than just the two of us helped as some of they questions they asked other people was why they had no photos with other people.

Some people they talked to for 20 or 30 minutes, but with us it was quick. I think because I was there and I was the only American born fiance/wife. Everyone else was trying to go over to Albanian born spouses/fiances.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Thank you so much for all of the info. I am flying over there on the 16th thru the 23rd (his medicall is Monday the 5th his interview is the 19th). I was really hoping to go into the interview with him (basically so they could see how we are together). We have thousands of emails and pictures. Our pictures are from Italy, our wedding, with friends, with family, our honeymoon, and the few other trips I've taken over there. I really PRAY that he will get his visa in time to come home with me on the 23rd (as it is, I will be missing a week of work.. totally worth it though, especially if I can fly home with him). He's a little worried that his medical is so close to the interview date (only 2 weeks).. he's worried the embassy won't get the papers in time. We are so excited, yet worried about every little detail too! I am so happy because we finally have an interview date! Now we just need the visa and get him here!!!!!!!!

Yea, my husband went today for his medical appointment. He came home and IM'ed me and told me that they just took his paperwork (case number, injections record, etc) today and told him to come back on the 13th! I thought it was really weird that they tell him he has a medical appointment and then they just take papers! He said they told him that they will do all the medical work on the 13th and supposedly give him some kind of sealed envelope to bring to the embassy for the interview. I hope that if he has any problems, they will tell him there rather than having to find out at the interview! Does this all sound normal?
