I am Swedish, 35 years old, my husband is American and he was born in Texas, 32 years old. We got married in Texas 2010 and he moved to Sweden in 2011 because we didn't want to be apart and it was easier and faster for him to move to Sweden. Now we are trying to get my paperwork done so that we can move back to Texas. So far we have done this:

7/26/2015 sent the I-130 to Chicago.

8/11/2015 got an email saying they have received our paperwork and it's forwarded to the California service center.

9/22/2015 got a letter saying the I-130 has been approved 9/11/2015. "The NVC will contact the person for whom you are petitioning (beneficiary) concerning further imigrant visa processing steps. You should allow a minimum of 30 days for Department of state processing before contacting the NVC. If you have not received any corresponande from the NVC within 30 days, you may contact the NVC by e-mail..."

Today is 10/14/2015 and no one has contacted me and their not responding to our e-mails. My question goes like this:

Both my mother-in-law and our sponsor has called them and both times they have been told that someone will call me and make an appointment to have an interview at the embassy in Stockholm. If granted they will give me a permanent resident card/green card and we are good to go. That is all we have to do, nothing else.

BUT after reading several posts here we have started following the NVC wiki and that one says that we need a case number and IIN number (we have called and asked for those several times but they don't have those yet). After getting those numbers we are supposed to do the DS-260, pay the AOS fee, send IV and AOS package, do a medical and then do the interview....

Which one is right? Could it be so simple as they have told my m-i-l and sponsor or don't they have a clue on what actually needs to be done?

Hi,

nice to see another Swede going to Texas on here. :) We have a Scandinavian thread going, you should come join us there on the link below. We also have a Facebook group.

If you're both living in Sweden together, you can probably do DCF, i.e. file directly with the US embassy in Sweden. I don't know much about that process, but you can have a look at this link to that forum:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/82-direct-consular-filing-dcf-general-discussion/

But yes, if you're going the usual CR/IR-1 route, you need to deal a whole lot with NVC before moving on to your interview. :(

Good luck with your visa journey.

Whom did they call? USCIS or NVC? The process is a bit longer than the information provided anyway.

BUT after reading several posts here we have started following the NVC wiki and that one says that we need a case number and IIN number (we have called and asked for those several times but they don't have those yet).

You called NVC and they said they don't have your case yet?? If so, they might not have received your case from USCIS yet. 30 days is just a number provided for information. Sometimes NVC received the file from USCIS within 2 weeks of I130 approval while sometime it may take few months. Keep calling NVC every 7-10 days so that you would know when they received your file from USCIS and created a case number.

After getting those numbers we are supposed to do the DS-260, pay the AOS fee, send IV and AOS package, do a medical and then do the interview....

Which one is right? Could it be so simple as they have told my m-i-l and sponsor or don't they have a clue on what actually needs to be done?

The latter one is correct (case number, DS-260, AOS fee.... and the rest till the interview).

Thank you! So we'll just keep on calling for the case/IIN number and see where we end up at. We are preparing our paperwork according to the CR/CR1 route just to be on the safe side and to save time. If it turns out that we can do the DCF then we are one step ahead :) What is your fb group called? I'll take a look at the scandinavian forum tonight when I'm at work :D

Thank you for your answers! I forgot to ask who they called, but it seems like whoever they talked to might have been having the DCF in mind...? The nvc has our paperwork but they haven't assigned us the case number or IIN number yet. But we'll keep on calling on a daily basis :D
