Greetings,

I want to know in what order following things can or should happen:

applying for ssn, marriage, driver licence (learner permit and license), AOS application, EAD permit

In virginia, can one apply for driver license (or learner permit) without SSN?

Appreciate your response.

Thanks,

sl

Well, I don't know any particulars about VA, but in general you should:

1. Apply for SSN

2. Get married (some states require a SSN for marriage, so if VA doesn't this step could be interchanged w/ #1)

3. You can apply for your EAD and AOS at the same time. See the guides section for more details.

4. Driver's License will involve VA-specific requirements for appropriate documentation. I.e. some states require EAD before they will issue a driver's license.

It is better to apply for SSN right away (after 2 weeks of landing here.) That way you are in the system and from that point on you can use the SS number for bank accounts, driver's license etc. Some states do not let you have a driver's license unless you have an EAD or the Green card itself. Check out the local DMV. Good Luck
