Citizenship for stepchild

When my wife is eligible to acquire citizenship (in two years), her child will already have turned 18 years old (by only a few weeks). Will my stepchild be eligible for citizenship as well or will she be subject to the five year residency requirement?

She can apply 90 days before her residency anniversary date. Are you calculating the age based off of this date?

Also, from experience: My aunt passed her citizenship test 1 week after my cousin turned 18. So, he wasn't eligible and had to take the exam on his own.

Not worried about the exam. My question is about the timing. Wife will be eligible to apply under three year rule. Will stepchild be eligible as well or will she need to wait and apply based on her own residency?

If she does not become a US citizen (she only becomes a US citizen when you takes the oath, which is after a long process of applying) before his 18th birthday, he will have to apply for naturalization on his own based on the 5-year rule.

Oooh, I see...right, well as explained above, child will need to wait until 5 years have passed since admission.
