There are people who simply sit behind the scenes and read the posts here so they can report the TOS violations. If a forum is heavily reported, than it stands to reason that it is also heavily moderated. Sure you will always have peeps that push the limits and those people deserve to be banned for their actions. The rules of this board do not support the workings of a political forum, it needs to be separated.

When you have posters being banned for accusing another poster of being a sock puppet(when that poster clearly was), or posters being banned for dancing around a ridiculous word filter that prevents you from referring to the former Vice President by his first name, or being banned for posting pictures of women that show cleavage(all the while VJ runs adds to hook up with foreign women pictured scantily clothed), or my fave a poster being banned for "inciting violence" by posting a politically biased article and not being allowed to return until he admitted such, is not just heavy moderation, it is a dictatorship.

that's what I was getting at. some people look for reasons to report each other. those reports have to be addressed. when they are---->'the mods are biased'. maybe people shouldn't be so willing to report others for things they themselves did 2-3 posts back. we're adults, people shouldn't call security every time someone rubs them the wrong way.

this is a dictatorship. its ewok land. what ewok says goes.

For what its worth, I've never had issues with moderation regarding general TOS issues. Over the years, I've been mainly perplexed by the increased censorship that the site owner has imparted on the site. I'm not talking about deleting racists comments etc, its more the odd ball rules that appeared over time such as the ban on the abbreviation of "Chinese Communist" or censorship of women etc. There are a few others somewhere in the back of my mind but they aren't coming to me at the moment. Oh the need to absolutely stifle anything remotely off topic is another.

Off topic conversation is not prohibited by the TOS. Read it, its not referenced anywhere. The times I think it might can be removed if it is asked to be removed by the topic creator. I feel like that person has some right to an on topic thread if others are trying to disrupt it. Plus it could fall under:

Restrict or inhibit any other user from using and enjoying the Forums.

If its nature is to be hateful to someone else.

But, if someone starts a topic on global warming and i post a pizza cat picture, I haven't violated TOS. Again though, if the thread creator asks us to remove off topic commentary, I'd probably do it.

If you think moderation is not adhering to TOS, report it or post it in Site Discussion. It will be discussed.

The adult content stuff is a result of what the site owner wants. And its his choice to make. We, the moderators, have no input on this.

People should be aware of the type of forum they are in and know that there is a chance they might read something they don't like or find offensive. The answer isn't to report, the answer is to either ignore it or click your mouse to another page. In other words, be an adult.

On the other hand it would be nice to see the mods use discretion in this forum and tell people when they are being overly sensitive, or when they know that a certain person or people abuse the report button, don't let them do it. Abuse of the report button should be a bannable offense.

Again, these problems would disappear with a password protected forum.

2. Abuse of the report button should be a bannable offense.

1. This is done, perhaps more frequently than might be realized.

2. This abuse draws attention that overreporters won't like.

What do you think is the reason(s) why?

Because most people just wanted someone to push their agenda or remove people from the forum they didn't like. That became obvious fairly quickly. And when I didn't, I was biased or any other name you can think of.

Or I suck Teddy, I don't know. Is that what you want to hear?

I think you're missing the point G. Part of the reason you were put on as a mod for this forum was to filter out the frivolous reports and allow people some latitude in their discussion. In my opinion the reporting and the moderation only got worse. Why is that? I seriously doubt it was your doing. Were you not allowed to do what your original task was supposed to be.

No that's not what I want to hear and that's not what I think.

G. has had to take off long stretches of time because of work demands. Others of us have filled in. If there are complaints or questions, by all means PM the mod involved.

For the record, I've frequently sought second or third mod opinions before taking action in this forum.

I counted 10 "long-time" posters...based on my observations of posts/threads in the CEHST. Same people as always posting, maybe a couple of "new posters" but nothing to boast about.

As for myself, and IMO, (which I should be entitled to) it's extremely difficult to break into this forum and the obvious cliques don't make it conducive or a newbie to want to post. Long-time posters being dismissive, derisive, unable to appreciate other points of view, beating down those "new posters" to the point of submission eventually leading to "what the hell, why do I try". Non-specific phalluses here.

Rarely do I post or even view here any longer because of that. Most unwelcoming forum IMO.

I disagree respectfully.

I'm not sure, but I think I was the first black/Muslim liberal thinking poster in this forum. When I started posting back in 2013 here, it was pretty rough, but I didn't feel like I couldn't fit in. The only thing missing was being gay, I would have been the trifecta. Considering I embody at least 2 things that some people abhor and was able to give as much as I took, it can't be that bad here.
