"Waiter! This coffee tastes like mud!"

"It should, sir; it was ground this morning." :)

---

We have access to genuine Colombian coffee here, and Mrs. T-B.'s visitors tend to bring her some. But yes, it probably is true that U.S. coffee is rather weak.

Killsry, I was talking about long life milk. Long life normal milk. Not fresh milk.

Try the Horizon single serving packs. They're UHT. Americans can be weird about shelf stable, well, everything!

Also, apparently I can't read or I would have understood your comment. :P

No one has yet mentioned that it's deep, immediate trouble to offer a U.S. policeman a bribe in exchange for leaving you alone or forgetting an infraction. Bribes might be routine in other countries. Comments?

very true....bribe is common in most Caribbean countries and the islands.

I am not living in the US as yet but from my visits.

Driving is crazy in NYC, parking is hilarious.......they double park on the road.

J-walking OMG, I hate the tipping some places mini tip is $5.00.

Time Warner Cable has nothing good showing

The people in NYC party non-stop.

Lol, yes I was hoping for like half gallon containers or something. You know, to keep in your pantry for when you run out of milk at 11pm or halfway through breakfast and it's not convenient to go the 24-7 stores that are all over the place here ;)

After some more searching I found bulk packs of Parmalat available online through Staples.

5) The metric system... oh boy!

My Canadian husband is NOT amused with the lack of metric units here. I am very much familiar with the metric system and frequently have to translate miles into meters/kilometers for him.

When you are watching a flim....lets say Jurassic Park at 12pm on AMC and they cut the good bits out!!! Whats the point of watching Jurassic Park if you can't see the gory parts. Swearing on T.V....They will happily show you someone getting shot but OH no you can't swear on T.V.

THIS. I'M A CITIZEN AND I HATE THIS TOO. I always have to remind him not to bother watching any movies on TBS/TNT/Comedy Central/MTV/AMC because they censor all the good stuff.

We'll park literally anywhere

But seriously my husband can't stand how we drive around here. We have no shortage of rudeness or aggression and we don't care what the weather's doing either (me personally - I'm aggressive when I need to be but I don't bother getting mad at people and I sure as heck don't mess around in bad weather, I'm not insane!). His reaction time is too slow for driving here so he's not allowed to do any driving in NYC for the sake of my car and our lives. He also doesn't like the very short merges we have and our pot-holed roads.

His concept of J-walking and our concept of J-walking are 2 different things; Walking straight across against the traffic signal = not J-walking. Crossing an intersection diagonally or crossing the street in the middle (not at a crosswalk) = J-walking.

Time Warner is garbage, Verizon FIOS is where it's at!

I drove my husband into Chinatown at 2 am Saturday 2 weeks ago because I had a sore throat and the only cure for me is wonton soup. He kept his window down to listen to the ambiance; nope, we don't care how late it is we'll honk the horn and we sure don't care about keeping a reasonable noise level at a party or anywhere else really. It's all white noise to me. He was also amazed that there was actual bumper to bumper traffic at that hour.

Liberty ave is between queens and Richmond hill area . It kinda runs parallel to Jamaica Ave and Atlantic Ave .

The best Trinidad and Guyanese place on liberty for food is Sybil's Roti shop and Singh Roti shop .

Growing up in Texas, and then traveling and living in other countries, it really bothers me that we are so car-centric. We can't get anywhere without a car. Walking is out, because everything is far. Bikes are out, because in most of Texas, there are no bike lanes, and some yahoo in a truck will squish you. There are no reasonable public transport systems. If you can find a taxi, it will be so expensive you will wish you walked...

Not enough public spaces.

Too much time in front of televisions and computers (ha, where I am now...) and not enough to do out and about.

Just got back from Walmart. They sell Parmalat, it's right next to the Carnation evaporated milk, and powder milk. In the baking section.

Before and just after arriving, Mrs. T-B. kept asking questions about how far it was to walk to the supermarket and various other stores. Still uncertain about distances, she decided to walk to the nearest mall (3.5 miles one-way) one day. She didn't complain and merely remarked about the distance; we found her a car of her own not long afterwards.

I don't think there's a Walmart anywhere near here, haha, but now that I know Parmalat is available I can order online. Thanks :)

I would check the baking section I bet they have some. It's just sitting next to the powdered milk so it blends in.

One big change that wifey experienced is the shift from in-person to on-line shopping. I love on-line shopping: Olga is a tomato squeezer! She loves to go out and look, smell and feel potential purchases. I like to look at the pretty pictures and click the 'add to shopping cart' link. She is coming around, but her preference is still to venture out and experience shopping.
