Olga is not quite accustomed to US sports yet. She is bored by baseball (in October...really??). She loves US Football but worries because she received a Tebow jersey during his brief stint with the Jets. His career subsequently tanked. Now, she is concerned about getting a Peyton Manning jersey...

For my wife, it's sales tax. It still bothers her greatly that final prices are not displayed on merchandise.

The amount of artificial stuff in things... If I want to eat strawberry whatever, I want REAL strawberry flavor, not artificial stuff!

Cool whip. I cannot understand why anybody buys that stuff... You want whipped cream and you eat vegetable oil that tastes horrible?!

How tv is full of joint lawsuits and you need to hurry up, because "offer ends soon".... "Victims of mesothelioma or their loved ones, call now!" Been going on for at least a year and it drives me nuts.

How tv is full of medicine commercials that can save your life, but oh wait, we gota tell you that this and that and these could be side effects, and you could actually also die if you take this.. Plus, on a small print that stays on the screen for a split second it reads that none of the claims are FDA approved. Can't belive they're alowed to sell all this stuff... And I also find it strange that they suggest that you as a patient should ask your doctor if you could benefit from this medicine. Where I com from, I go to the doctor and the doctor will tell me my options :D

How when watching tv, you have to turn up the volume to hear anything of the actual show, but then jump a foot in the air and get a mini heart attack every time the show goes on commercial break, bcause the commercials are significantly louder than the show.

How some people think brang is an actual word.

That pople call it homemade and baking when they bought a cake mix, added water and put it in the oven.

That people LIKE these "homemade" cakes :D

That Fanta doesn't taste the same, because it doesn't have real sugar in it.

Bill O'Reilly, but let's not go there...

LOLOL

So true....all except Cool Whip. I love it!

Or like how on TV it's okay to show violence in the from of stabbing, shooting and mutilation, but one nip slip and it's a freaken national controversy! LOL.

Or how like processed food is more expensive than organic food.

Same here! :o I mean, it's 7% (compare to the 12% in Ecuador) but why isn't it displayed?? It throws me off every time.

Also, the amount of advertisements before a movie at the theater. NOT MOVIE RELATED, just, stuff like Coca Cola, cars, all that. Just, WHYYYY??

How some people think brang is an actual word.

But it is -- see below.

Brang is used all over North America...sadly!

Really nothing sad about it. This verb form is in common parlance in Texas. When it's used as past tense (typically in written Texas English), it turns "bring" into a strong verb: "bring, brang, brung." In spoken English, it can be present tense: "Be shore t' brang the poke sausage to the party, and dance with the one what brung you."

Seriously for a fleeting moment, I don't know how anyone ever learns English as a second language. Every time there appears to be a rule of grammar, pronunciation, or orthography, it ain't really.

Furthermore, Americans tend to speak casually or sloppily, with use of slang, contractions all over the place, poor elocution, and often poor grammar.

Oh heck no, ya'll brang it now. Seriously never even heard of brang before. and its Y'all...just like it sounds.

Local option sales tax is the worse like just this specific side of the road or this mall or that specific Target.

This is correct -- it's a contraction of "yew all." Furthermore (priceless English lesson pending), it's to be used solely in the plural; an individual is to be addressed as "yew."*

*Or, in certain areas of Nuh Yawk/Nuh Joisey, as "youse."

I've been here for almost 12 years.

Still don't get:

1) Celebrities... they are treated like royalty. If there are two items on the news like nuclear weapons in another country and Kim Kardashian's fingernails... the fingernails will cover 75% of the news.

2) Dinner time. It's so early. I am 'Americanized' about that now and confess that I now eat dinner at 6:30 pm... but I still don't get it.

3) FDA... FDA approved this, FDA approved that... Food here is genetically modified to make it bigger and has preservatives to make it last longer... how come THAT is FDA approved? We don't have FDA in other countries and there are less cases of diseases spread by food contaminants and less cancer, and less obesity ¿?

4) Soccer / Football....Why is it that Americans insist on calling the sport "soccer," while the rest of the world calls it "football"?... And why don't Americans care about Soccer??? Sad.

5) The metric system... oh boy!

It's soccer in Canada too. Other than the fact that Toronto's soccer team is Toronto Football club. Growing up my dinner time was always between 5:00-5:30 because of evening activities

Thanks shauneg...no stumps for you? ;)

Ew longer breaks, thats worse...i hate the radio station that does that I always have to swap stations then.

I prefer having a show I'm watching for an hour having only 4 breaks. It means that I get to actually get into it before another commercial comes on. Here it feels like I watch a show for less time than I watch adverts. Also, it just infuriates me when they ad break comes on then it cuts back to the show just to show you the credits. What's that all about?!

I guess I also get annoyed at the fact tax isn't just automatically added on before you reach the checkout. Leaves you with all this awkward change, and I'm still not in the habit of adding the tax on because my maths skills are pretty rusty.

I also don't quite get why everyone has to file a tax return. Unless you're self-employed in the UK, your taxes are automatically calculated from what has been taken out of your paycheque. Odd to me when taxes are automatically taken here, yet you still have to file? I just know this is going to drive me insane once I can work.
