Okay, so my wife had the 2 year green card and we applied for the removal of conditions. When the biometrics appointment letter arrived, we noticed that they misspelled her middle/maiden name. So she called and was on the phone for like 45 minutes...eventually they told her to bring all her documentation to the bio appointment and they would correct it. So that's what we did, and she was told the correction would be made.

Well, the Green Card came and they didn't correct it. So she immediately called....on the phone for another 30 minutes...and it sounds like they just opened a case / service check. They said we should get a "response" within 30 days.

Anyone have this experience before? Will they end up just sending her a new card or will we have to physically go into immigration services again?

So frustrating to think we were finally finished, only to open the letter and find a spelling error.

You should file an I-90 to obtain a replacement card. There will be no fee due to it being a USCIS error.

Or, you could try what we did.

Ours had the wrong date. After going the 9+ month I90 route and two 551 stamps for two year GC with a wrong date also I didn't want to go that route again for the 10 year with the wrong date on it again, so here's what we did: sent an e-request. I got an acknowledgement of receipt and then an e-mail from an actual person in Laguna Niguel that basically said sorry for the mistake, send me the card and I'll get it fixed and send you a new one. Got the corrected card in about 4 weeks. Was pleasantly surprised by the personal service.

Ok...thanks for the response. I guess at this point we will just wait for their response and take it from there.

I thoght i-90 was for lost or stolen green cards. I thought they might handle this situation diffeerently since it's a spelling error. Is there somewhere on the form to explain that they misspelled the name?

Anyway, like i said...at this point i think we'll wait for their response. Should be as simple as them correcting their mistake and immediately sending us the corrected card, but something tells me they'll make it more difficult

You can use the I90 for a replacement card. If it's due to USCIS error, it's free to you. But, it took us over 9 months and traveling with a 551 stamp can be a pain. I was pleasantly surprised that a person reached out to us, said sorry and got us the new card in 4 weeks.

Yours was an odd case hough with multiple screw ups on USCIS's side. Unfortunately it doesn't work for usual cases like filing e-request for mistake on the card for first time. I did it and got same copy-pasted ####### about directions to file i-90. Glad it worked out for you though.

OP, you need to file i-90 as it can be filed to correct errors on the card too.

The answer to that can be found in the I-90 instructions I linked above.

I think we're still going to wait for the response from USCIS, but we're going to go ahead and start getting everything ready with the I-90. But after some more research it looks like it can take anywhere from a couple months up to 9 months to receive the corrected green card (what a freaking nightmare). Some have suggested doing an infopass before we send off the i-90 / green card, to get the 551 stamp in the green card. When scheduling the infopass online, are we just supposed to select the reason is "information / other services". I just want to be sure if we do this appointment we actually do get the stamp and we don't waste more time. We are planning to visit her family in Colombia early next year or next spring, and obviously we have no idea how long this will take. Are they pretty good about giving the 551 stamp to people or do they make a big deal about it?

Ok i thought i was going to breeze through the i-90 with no questions but now i'm stumped. Part 3 , #1 and 2. #1. Location where you applied for an immigrant visa or adjustment of status. K-1 visa is technically non-immagrant. We filed I-485 adjust status, like all k-1 people, at the chicago lockbox. But the "welcome to the usa" approval notice has an address at the bottom for Lee's Summit Missouri. So which address do i use? And the blank on the form is pretty small and not big enough for me to trype in the whole address. Do i just use the city and state names?

Part 3 #2, Location where immigrant visa was issued OR you were granted adjusted status. We mailed the adjustment of status packet to the California service center. I assume that's all we need to put (again, no room for full address).

Help would be greatly appreciated

If you had no AoS interview then enter the AoS-granting office as the NBC.

Many local offices require an I-90 receipt before they will issue an I-551 passport stamp.

We had no AoS interview. So for part 3 #2, even though we mailed the i751 to California service center, we should just write "national benefits center"? Correct? How are people supposed to know to do this?

If we scheduled the infopass ASAP you don't think they could give her an i551 stamp if we have the valid (albeit misspelled) new 10 year green card with us? If they don't stamp her, and we have to send the green card back, how the heck is she supposed to leave/enter the country? We're planning on going to colombia in 6 months and also it's very possible my wife will have to leave the country for business

We scheduled an InfoPass, went in with the GC, NOAs etc. Explained the issue. Were given a piece of paper with the Arizona address to mail the I90. Was only given a 6 month stamp necessitating a second InfoPass for another stamp which was 9 months. This was for our 2 year that had the wrong Resident Since date on it which they did again with the 10 year!

You can ask the local office for an I-551 stamp given the circumstances, but I've read many stories of them refusing until you have filed an I-90 and have the receipt NOA proving that. They will give you an I-551 stamp with the I-90 NOA; they might give you an I-551 stamp without the I-90 NOA.

Since you are going to have to file an I-90 anyway, it makes sense to get it out of the way.
