Hi all,

So following my visa medical last week, I was advised to follow up with my GP so they could send some of my medical notes over to them before they could finish processing my medical. I have a history with mild depression but after a course of anti-depressants, which I no longer take, I would consider myself to be better and in a healthy state of mind.

I attended an appointment with my GP earlier today, bringing along the letter the panel physician had asked me to produce, and was told that it wasn't sufficient enough for them to give over my record - as they would need a formal, written letter from Knightsbridge and also a letter of consent from me.

From this point I am rather confused with what to do next.. Surely bringing the letter to my GP myself is proof of consent enough? I am aware of fees involved and I see them as no problem but would rather get this little issue over with as soon as I can before I'm given an interview date.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? I don't know whether to go about obtaining my medical records myself (which would seem a lot easier) and sending them to Knightsbridge on my own volition.

Any answers would be much appreciated, as I feel pretty stuck with what to do at the moment.

Thanks!

What if you wrote and signed a statement to your GP. "I am requesting a statement from you based on my medical records concerning my mental health. Please include a,b, c, d (whatever Knightsbridge said)". I need this in order to,obtain a visa to the United States. Please and thank you and sprinkled throughout. You send to Knightsbridge. This is what somebody recently needed

<p>My fiance indicated he had battled some depression 3 years ago while going thru the separation from his wife. He took with him a letter from his doctor but Knightsbridge asked for this additional information. Just thought I would share so that you know all they will be asking. Hope this helps. He was given a form by the doctor and asked to have his doctor provide the following information. Please provide a brief medical report outlining:

  • Diagnosis
  • Investigations - if any
  • Treatment
  • Duration of treatments and illness
  • Any prior or subsequent mental health illness
  • Any incidents of self-harm, harm to others or suicidal attempts
  • Prognosis and your opinion of current mental state

I would ask the GP to address those exact points in a short report. You don't need exact copies of your medical file.

I'd give Knightsbridge a call & ask them to advise you.

I had a referral letter for my GP on Friday & have started the ball rolling this morning for a new found condition with my GP. The letter was acceptable to them.

I did raise with the doctor at the medical my concerns incase my GP was uncooperative & she said any problems then get back to her, the GP has to do as she asks & if they don't it can be raised to the next level. Seemed like this was something that sometimes happens.

A bit more information about Tim's case. He made an appointment with his doctor to discuss. He signed a release form at his GP allowing them to release information to the Knightsbridge doctor. We gave them the option to provide us with the letter or for them to send it do the doctor's email. He also gave them the phone number for them to call and verify. Once the GP understood what the information was going to be used for there was no issue.
