Me, my husband, and my son travelled back to our origin country after staying in USA for 2 months and getting our Green cards.

We heard that if we stayed more than 6 months outside US we might face some problems getting in again, and we must prof that we have any assets like (home, car, bank account, running business .. etc) to get in without problems.

My question here, is that true or not and what if my husband go to US before 6 months, then me and my son follow him after 9 or 10 months to have a chance to set a home and secure a job.

Applied to lottery: 29 Oct 2013

Entry checked: 2 May 2014

Case number: 2015AF00019xxx

Form DS-260 completed: 03 JUN 2014

Passed Interview: 18 May 2015

Landed in the US: 22 of July 2015

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Despite some of the scare stories, longer than 6 months as long as it's not longer than a year is fine; you may well get questioned when you come back but it shouldn't be an issue. Proof of various things as you said above is helpful but not essential, especially if you're coming back in on a one-way ticket and can demonstrate commitment to residency that way. Source: our own experience!

Do bear in mind that being outside longer than 6 months does affect the countdown clock for naturalization though.

the point to prove is if usa is your domicile. if any questions directed to you at immigration check point will be to see if you have maintained enough connection to call usa your permanent residence. Travel of less than 6 months have been a problem as well depending on cases. more than 6 months to 1 year will be treated as a potential abandonment and you very well may risk loosing your greencard. although its already late now, but for next time, if you have to visit more than 6 months or even for travel less than 2 years, you need to apply for re-entry permit. First time i came to usa, i stayed here for 28 days, and returned after 15 months with a re-entry permit. So if anything, the plan that you talked about your husband returning early and you following later is the best option, and make sure your husband has firm reasons why he stayed outside for so long so soon of coming to usa. Good luck.
