Does having a substantial mortgage affect Affidavit of Support?

I'm filling out the I-134 form and there is a section. Question 7 asks about owning real estate and "mortgage(s) or other encumbrance(s) thereon amount to:".

I recently purchased a condo so I obviously have a substantial mortgage.

Will that be a concern for the Affidavit of Support?

I make well over the required amount for Affidavit of Support. However, I'm wondering if having this giant mortgage will affect me negatively?

No, this is more of a formality; the only thing they really care about is that your income is 125% (or was is 155%?) above the poverty limit for your MARRIED family size (e.g. new spouse, and new spouse's children that will be living with you).

If your income is sufficient, just leave all the asset questions blank. They are optional. In the AOS process, you'll use the I-864, that specifically states that the asset section is optional when income is sufficient. It works the same for the I-134.
