Showers, if built right, are not cheap. In fact, they cost much more than a tub. There's much more than meets the eye. You guys have seen pics of my bath, but what you can't see is the underlying materials throughout.

For the shower, concrete backer boards, lead, pvc, or fiberglass lining under the tile work. Glass work is expensive. Faucets can be very expensive.

In other areas, fixtures are expensive. Glass vanity. The other faucets. And Tarks favorite, the toilet bowl. Tile work. Heated floors etc...

The picture you showed us, you can do that for 4000, and you can do that for 20,000. Depends on what you put in there. Just the glass doors for that shower cost 1500 installed. The faucets probably 1000. And you won't use a hundred dollar sink for that bathroom, nor a hundred dollar toilet bowl (unless you're Tark)...

Oh I'll probably use the existing toilet. And we can do the tile. I don't care what kind of doors are there, even a shower curtain is fine to be honest. We don't need heated floors either and likely wouldn't use expensive faucets. I won't put a high end bathroom into a not high end home. It would look silly. Moving all the plumbing and changing the walls would likely be some of the expense too. I figure we can do the upstairs bathroom for 5kish and the downstairs for 3.

Our remodel was pretty cheap because we did everything ourselves and our bathroom is tiny. It is a pretty basic remodel and just to get rid of the terrible stuff they did before. Left side is the after, right is before. And yes, they did use laminate floor trim pieces around the shower surround because they were too stupid to realize that the lip was supposed to go under the drywall.

I want to make the master bath bigger. Heck can I call it the master bath with the size it is??

It's an ok size really most houses in our area are pretty old and only have 1 bathroom. Sometime in the 70's an addition was added to this place so they added the second bathroom.

I so want to gut them both right now, but I think the Jedi's hospital bills will make that impossible now.
