Ok what part of that are you complaining about?

I have noticed a lot of things about the US kids here vs my kids.

Although it could be more this city here.

Ok finally read the end of it.

That is nuts.

But not surprising why make the kids do their work when they can't be failed or can't be forced to do the work. They get too many chances and if the teachers dare say anything the parents threaten them with lawsuits.

SO the teachers let text talk slide, they let them do make up tests and make up assignments and when those still don't get done they still pass the darn class. :ranting:

This whole common core slows down the brighter kids.

And it's true that the Asian kids score high because of their upbringing.

And now, they're being discriminated against. For being "too good".

Wt-f. Where are my daughters supposed to go to school?

My aunt sent us a christmas card. I doubt I have much room to talk because I meant to send out cards and didn't. But to be honest, I'd rather not get a card that says "Merry Christmas N**** & (??) I don't remember name"

You asked for my address. You could have asked me. Asked my mother. Asked your sister who can remember. Asked my sister. Heck even looked at my wedding album on facebook (where she asked for my address.) But no... Instead you write ??

I normally keep cards, but I'm not keeping that one. I will grant that I do not spend time around this aunt. She wasn't invited to the wedding (it was very small after all) and I was with my ex the last time I saw her in person. I also try to keep my husband off of social media as much as humanly possible. I do not post pictures of him and refer to him only occasionally as hubs or very rarely by his name which is generally when I'm talking to his family about him. This is by his request of course and I respect his need for privacy.

Steve, it is stupid. The other parents feel less than and say their children can't compete academically. Yes they can. THEY, the parents, are holding them back. The children are good enough and if parents make an effort to instill good study habits and make school a priority it only helps the kids. Basically the parents want to bring the other children down because they don't want to put in the effort to bring their children up. They're being a type of bully if you think about it.

Schools need to raise the expectation, not lower it.

You'd think the school would want to bring the other kids up because higher test scores generally means better schools.

The schools do want to bring the not so smart kids up. It's the common core that's holding them back.

They're evaluated by common core testing. And are forced to conform.

And, so, they teach the way common core wants them to teach, and gear their curriculum towards doing good on common core testing.

By which chance, my daughter's school is very good at it.

They can opt out, but the state loses federal funding.

Parents can opt out of their kids being tested. But the school rely on the smarter kids to bring up their scores.

At the last meeting, we went over the reading portion of the grade 3, 4 and 5 tests, it's ridiculous.

The questions are contorted and not straight forward.

Our school, is against common core.

And now, instead of spending a quiet New Year's eve at home.....

I gotta go all over the place.....

Oh yes common core is going to kill the kids education. They are seeing more and more kids getting put on antidepressants because of so much stress learning that junk.

I think all of it is nuts.

I finally found a school that I think I maybe able to tolerate for the Tornado. Maybe she will last a few years but my money is on taking her out before she even gets past 2nd grade.

Now this school has no buses and and starts before 8am. WHy do they think kids need to start school so bloody early here??

So her going there next year will depend on the Hillbilly. It's this school or homeschool.

My kid's school starts at 730 for breakfast. 8:25 for kids that don't need to eat breakfast in school. I try to get the kid there at 8 to socialize before class.

My kvas. Fresh from Canada...
