Report rude consular officers

Hello all VJ's. its with no doubt that there's abuse of power by consular officers in most embassies in Africa. most consular officers esp in Ghana won't even look at your docs or just write u off for something irrelevant. how do we report these rude officers abusing the powers given them?

As a prior K-1 I feel your pain, but you might want to consider the following below.

And please don't go into "he's already with his spouse, he does not understand/care/<your favorite word here>". We had our share of uncertainty and drama.

Here is what you need to consider, and I'm not defending the CO:

The rate of visa rejections in Ghana is high, that is directly related to a insufficient documentation, fake documentation perhaps, overstay of citizens from Ghana, possibly scam relationships (we'll never know is this is the case since there are no stats and no one in their right mind would post such a case here (except the affected partner possibly), etc

The higher the rate the more rejections a country has, there is a correlation and some would call it Catch-22

COs have a procedures manual, but there is a lot that is left to their discretion. Unfair sometimes? Absolutely. Take into account that when in doubt, they will vely likely deny. I would.

Most important: it is not a right but a privilege for the prospective immigrant to obtain a visa and live in the US. Not saying the the US is making you a favor by approving; we are people after all; but that is an important distinction that gets lost in the frustration of a denial. Think of it this way: if you apply for a job in a company, you are given the opportunity to apply, while you might have a right to hold a job, it does not mean a right to the job you applied for in that company

Or, this other way: you apply for a loan at your local bank. You are given the opportunity to apply .It does not mean an automatic approval of a loan.

Yes, we are talking about people lives, families and not jobs or loans; but principle is similar.

Put it this way: no one is stopping your SO to move to your country. If the love and relationship is that strong and what matters most, why would your SO not move there?

I was ready to do so and leave everything behind if our case had not been favorable.

Hope your journey ends up well.

Hi Maria, sorry for the wrong saying of your name..you have raised a very important point. but all in all, I think the u.s govt must rewrite its immigration laws and furthermore make the system strict, fair and more reliable

"the u.s govt must rewrite its immigration laws and furthermore make the system strict, fair and more reliable"

110% in agreement. Very hard to do so. There have been several discussions here on that. You can search.

And we -the relatively small VJ community- could NOT come to an agreement.

Because it is hard. One way or another, someone always had an issue with a given proposal

Not negating it must be done. I'm not that confident the Congress would ever get there and my thinking is that it would need to be something coming from the President's office no less.

the truth of the matter is, no one is entitled to America, we all are inhabitants... the only true citizens of the u.s are the family of Christopher Columbus. lol...not even the consular officer..so the descendants of Christopher Columbus should be allowed to become consular officers and see if those consular officers currently will be issued visas themselves...God bless Our countries

Wrong, the true inhabitants are the native Americans that the newcomers treated like ####### and forced into reservations killing many of them in the process.

This is so far wrong and out there that I do not even know where to begin to respond. So I will just say... Whether or not you end up reporting a rude CO, please please please read some actual history books.

If you have actually experienced rude or disrespectful behavior document who it was and when and what was said or done and have the USC report it to their Senator not sure if they will do anything but you will have it documented. Also call NVC OR USCIS and ask if there is anyone you can speak to about it. If it was something that troubling its worth a shot

If you don't like to read I recommend watching the documentary series America The Story of US made by History Channel. Columbus was not even the first to discover America, the Vikings did 500 years before him.

Could it possible be because a lot of people have tried to scam their way to the US and now thanks to them the consular officers in Ghana doesn't trust anyone anymore? Among all the sad stories of people who truly love each other that gets denied the majority is from Ghana yes. But among the stories of US citizens being scammed Ghana is pretty far up there too.

It's all well and good your being the voice or reason the devils advocate

in this situation.

But looking at your timeline I don't think you can possibly understand what

some of us have gone through and received a denial for no reason at all at

the end of this nightmare. Thank you for being sorry but it sounds condecending

to me. Sorry just saying how I feel.

I'm sure your dealing with the Embassy in Sweden was wonderful if you ever

visited it. I was not so lucky at the Cairo Embassy and I'm a US citizen, you

can only imagine how a non US citizen is treated. Is this the way we want our

country represented? I was always told you can tell someone to go to hell in

a million different ways the kind way is the best it wont diminish either one of

you.

Let me give you a brief example, I married my husband lived with him for two

years solid. I had to return due to both my parents becoming ill and still are. I

have signed papers from their Dr's explaining the situation etc. We have tons

of proof we are a bona fide marriage, my husband is a highly educated man,

yet we were denied. While others who met after 6 months of talking on the internet

visit Egypt marry in a week go back home after a week or two their husbands have

little education and they get their Visa in a fraction of the time it took them to

deny us.

You have no idea the bigoted racist attitude at many of the Embassies and

they carry on with impunity. The pain they inflict is insurmountable without

reason or rhyme and they must be accountable for their actions we are not monsters

to be treated as we are.

Did you read my post where I said I think it's unfair that countries are being treated differently? That it feels like some people from certain countries (for example Scandinavia) pretty much only need to show up for the interview to be approved whereas other countries have to jump to all sorts of hoops?

No, I can definitely not imagine how it's like but I do realize and think it's awful that people are being treated differently. I also see the other side of the coin where people who have committed fraud have messed up the process in certain countries and it is hard for the CO to see who's bona fide and who's fraud. There's also probably a few CO's who should not even be a CO for various reasons.

personally I don't think it should end here, to all those who have been treated unfairly and your relationships are breaking apart, would you join me as I send a written in concern to the department of state about what goes on in most of these embassies and also post videos on YouTube for the whole world to know that some u.s embassies are being abusive and that the system isn't fair enough... its gonna be hard but who cares? enough of genuine lovers being pushed to commit suicide by some rude and unprofessional consular officer

Suicide? Really? I get the issue but come on now. If they're "pushed to commit suicide" it's likely that they have larger issues than immigration.

As I've said, the SCOTUS gave them absolute power after 9/11. Sadly I don't see it being taken back

anytime we come on here to vent our frustrations, people throw books and process at us. We get the process, but the disparities in enforcements are glaringly huge! This is about respect and common decency and again I urge all of you making excuses to go read the reviews. This is beyond the norm.

Right on the nose. Sadly others have ruined it for everyone in high fraud countries so what is the logic? Extra scrutiny for all.

Extra scrutiny isn't the problem, and no I have never felt or said my husband is entitled because I'm American and he's married to me that they should just let him come, the problem is it's a game to the consular working in such embassy's that don't care how they treat you or talk to you, and when you have a bona fide relationship and they still ask for more proof and you provide it and they still wanna play games with a persons life because they don't like there job, or don't like the country they are in, or you google the co and she she has had a issue in the past of given out visas to people who weren't suppose to recieve them, how is this person allowed to still work for any embassy, and another co that is talking with the next co while she is suppose to be interviewing you, and making smart comments under her breath, and treating you like you don't exist! I understand the fraudsters have made it hard for everyone else, but does that mean we can't be treat fairly and with respect?
