Hello all VJ's. its with no doubt that there's abuse of power by consular officers in most embassies in Africa. most consular officers esp in Ghana won't even look at your docs or just write u off for something irrelevant. how do we report these rude officers abusing the powers given them?

There is no obligation for them to look at your unverified docs that you brought with you. After all, there is a complete application submitted right? Just because you did not personally see them review the case doesn't mean it wasn't review beforehand when you weren't around. What is the specific abuse of power? What can you point to rather than the generalization that you have given?

I haven't had my interview yet but it hurts to see people who are genuinely in love being told their relation is a sham by some cold blooded consular officer. some of them abuse the power given them and if u don't know, just read previous posts

You have to be clear on answers and can't mix up dates and being confident about all your answers and don't be nervous . I was once in the embassy in Dubai waiting for my passport to get more pages . They handle American citizenship services and people coming for interviews in same place . This couple came and they came to complain the guy was a American citizenship his wife from Syria at least 7 months pregnant she had just got back to Dubai and was planing on going back to USA in another month .the women from Syria came and said I want to complain because when I went to USA last night the immigration officers called me many times and was very rude and called me a . The officer replied back sorry I don't work for department of homeland security I work for the department of state . And I'm going to have to cancel your visa until you deliver your baby you can re apply after your give birth . But you will not be going to give birth in America like you have planned . She wasn't rude was just doing her job but the lady said she was rude when she wasn't

You haven't had your interview, and yet you are sure that the consular officers are rude, have no doubt that they abuse their powers, etc., and you want to know how to report their bad behavior. How do you know all this without having the experience? If you go in with the preconceived attitude that the CO are rule and abuse their powers, then you will behave accordingly and the interview will not go well.

well, seems like you're a consular officer in disguise. lol.. I wish you were here in Ghana to see what goes on in the embassy room. I once applied for a non immigrant visa last year to go see my girlfriend last year. I was only asked 2 questions and was denied...all other people in the line as me were all denied...this consular officer who interviewed us was busily chatting with her co worker and not even looking at our faces or docs we have presented... if u are a consular officer pls say so and give expert advice to couples who's life's are falling apart

Have you read through Ghana's forum? Have you encountered a unprofessional consular?

Some People can't understand the frustration we feel. Ghanaian spouses are being torn apart by what is going on. For every 6 denials I see on VJ, 5 are Ghanaians. This is just insane!

how does the consular officer also know they are not really in love..how can a couple who have been together for 6 years be denied and told they are fake? just get the facts straight. these officers are abusing the powers given them.. I'm not saying there aren't some good considerate ones.. but these heartless ones here in Ghana must be reported.

yes u right Steve! u.s citizens get scammed a lot here but now its on the decrease as police has put many measures in place to check this out..the short of it all is that, the process of validating a couples genuiness must be shored up and be made more reliable rather than some rude officer somewhere just deciding peoples future based on their judgement

If I got a dollar each time I was called Steve I'd be pretty rich by now. I'm Maria, not Seve and definitely not Steve... ;)

You haven't been to your interview yet just an non immigration interview so I'm going to use that as an example of how they use their judgment... What did you use to prove that you weren't just going to go visit your girlfriend and never come back? They're not going to take your word from it when you answer those 2 questions, those questions are mostly used to verify the evidence you showed them that you will return.

If it would be made easier and more reliable, don't you think the scam issue would be on the rise again? I'm definitely not saying the situation right now is fair, I think it is awful that genuine couples get denied and I feel sorry for all of them. But I can also see the other side and see how hard it must be for the embassy to know who is a scammer and who is not. It could be that it's gotten to the point where they just feel that "Okay if I deny them and their genuine they will try again whereas a scammer who gets denied will just move on to the next target". I do not know if this is the case but for me that unfortunately sounds plausible.

You'd think that the consular officers would get more deception training but maybe they don't get enough or I've been watching too much tv...
