I am a Bosnian citizen by birth and a Canadian by naturalization. My partner is a USC by birth.

We have been together for more than three years, and I spent the last two years on a J1 in the US. I received a job offer in Bosnia-Herzegovina over the summer and decided to take it. To secure residency papers for my finace, we opted to have a wedding here in Sarajevo (on October 17, 2015, next weekend). This will be a smaller, legal wedding, with our larger, family wedding to take place May 7, 2016 in Philadelphia.

We are thinking of beginning my immigration process as soon as we have our (Bosnian) marriage certificate and her residency permits in hand. I have a handful of questions about this process:

(i) Does anyone know whether DCF is still a possibiliity at the Sarajevo Embassy?

(ii) Would/should we file our relevant paperwork for me as a Canadian or a Bosnian citizen? I would prefer to go through the process as a Canadian citizen. But I am not sure whether this question is relevant or even whether it makes sense.

Thanks for any info and all best.

You will need to list both citizenships obviously. Since you are in Bosnia living and working legally as a citizen then you'd interview in Bosnia. Your Canadian citizenship will not need to play a role. Why do you prefer it to be filed as you as a Canadian? It does not make the process any easier.

good luck

I wasn't entirely sure as to how much information was required as to my existing citizenship(s).

I was also vaguely concerned about entry/exiting from Canada. If my eventual American visa would be pegged to my Bosnian passport, I was concerned about entering Canada as a Canadian but exiting as a Bosnian with American papers.

Thanks for the information though.

That does not sound like a concern to me. Canada will care about your Canadian citizenship. America will care about your PR status. Once you get your Green Card, travel with all 3 documents and I do not see a problem

good luck
