Hello! Has anyone here gotten married in Los Angeles? How long did it take for a copy of your marriage certificate to be available? I've called all of the registrar's office and checked their website but there is no info on the standard waiting time. Tried requesting online but it doesn't seem to process requests that are less than 45 days old. Is there no other way to check than personally going to the offices? It's a bit of a trip for us and a super inconvenient way no? frown emoticon Any advise?

I got mine after 9 weeks via mail. It was filed in LA County Clerk in Norwalk. I submitted the unfiled photocopy (souvenir copy) of the marriage certificate when we filed for AOS, EAD, AP since we were already on the end of the 5th week waiting for the filed one. I didn't want to be out-of-status. As long as you get the the filed marriage certificate before your interview. Otherwise, you can try calling the county where your marriage was filed and asked if you can personally get a certified copy. It's 15USD extra. They will inform you if they have a record(this means it has been filed/registered in their books but is just waiting to be mailed which can take upto weeks thus they give the 6-8 weeks time frame).

9 weeks? Crazy! Our problem was that we didn't immediately file a request for a copy. I've tried EVERY number at EVERY office but no one picks up the phone so I have no way to ask if they already filed our certificate. We got married in the Beverly Hills Courthouse and because they don't issue copies of the certificate, we have no idea where they filed it so today we're going to one of the offices that issues a copy. It's ridiculous that we have to make this 45 min trip for just an inquiry. I'm so frustrated.

In California they wouldn't give you a filed copy right away, unlike in other States, even if you got married in the Courthouse. You would still have to wait for 6-8 weeks until it's mailed to you. Have you not tried the Los Angeles County Clerk Office under Marriage Records? Because that's the only number I've called.

Did you not have the photocopy of your marriage certificate? The place where you got married should've given one to you. We got married in a Los Angeles wedding chapel, and they were the ones who told us that we could file using the souvenir copy they gave us. Although we still waited until 5 weeks.

From what the notary clerk told us, marriage certificates are brought to the LA county clerk for filing. But, it takes time as they collect all the marriage certificates, then everything's sent to another department. And then again sent to another department until it is mailed to you. The estimate is about 6-8 weeks but there are some who got their certificates in 2-4 weeks. I guess I was unlucky. Try calling first, in the morning. What the registrar told me was that even if you personally tried to collect your marriage certificate,if it's still not filed then you won't be able to get it. How many weeks has it been?

You can try calling vital checks, they have options as to what county your marriage certificate was filed depending on where you got married. The processing times are stated in their website. You can check it here: http://www.cdph.ca.gov/certlic/birthdeathmar/Pages/ProcessingTimes.aspx

BTW, our marriage certificate is deemed confidential thus it was filed in the Los Angeles County Clerk Office. That's the number I called. I checked your timeline, you're still in your 3rd week, just a few more weeks. Good luck

This is true! We got married and a few days later we had to go to the courthouse ourselves (we live in Virginia). So we got several official copies of the marriage certificate.

Then you're lucky. I called up a few chapels, and even some courthouses not in LA county and they all told me the same as to the release of the marriage certificate. Also researched here, and read that it's the same in San Francisco.
