NVC and Montreal embassy asking for original I-864 and tax returns for my interview.

Hey, I just got my interview date and am now preparing and going through all the things I need to bring to the interview.

My NVC interview letter states:

Bring updated Federal income tax information to the interview. If a sponsor filed an I-864 (Affidavit of

Support) and provided the NVC with proof of an IRS Federal income tax extension in lieu of a Federal

income tax return, bring the sponsor's most recent Federal income tax return to the visa interview.

Later in the letter it that explains my document status for "financial evidence" is listed as having been sent to the consulate from the NVC. I'm not sure what I need I need to do. In the Montreal US Consulate package to prepare us for the interview, it explicitly states:

OBTAIN THE ORIGINAL I-864 AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT AND COPY OF THE RECENT U.S. TAX RETURNS

This form is legally required for:

Applicants for family-based immigrant visas, including certain orphans.

Applicants for employment-based immigrant visas where a relative filed the immigrant visa petition

or has a 5 percent or greater ownership interest in the business that filed the petition.

The NVC has my original I-864 and our transcripts. Do I just bring copies of both to the interview? The consulate doesn't take inquiries over the phone and I won't get an email back from them any time before my interview date (which is in a month). I'm trying to get through to the NVC right now to ask. I want to assume that the NVC sent these documents to the embassy, but then I don't understand why part of my preparation from the embassy states I need the originals.

Also, do we need to bring a US tax return if we submitted transcripts?

When you send off your AOS package to NVC, you were only supposed to send photocopies and then take the original to Montreal.

If you have photocopies with you then walk with that and when asked to present the original explain that they already have it.
