Save check and VWP

I'm applying for a AOS from my VWP, and I finally got my EAD approved (card is in the mail).

I intended to head straight to SSA to apply for my social security number once I get my EAD card. Now, I've been reading this forum and found this SAVE thing.

I can't find my record on SAVE. Should I just head to SSA anyway and apply? I don't want to add unnecessary delays and get lost in the paperwork if they can't find me in SAVE.

I've already got job interviews lined up so with luck, I may need the social security number pretty quickly.

Hypnos, I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you on this but I'm puzzled as to what a person is checking when they access this site/database:

If there is some kind of mismatch in SAVE (say your first name and middle name are transposed, for example) then SAVE will not return you as eligible for a benefit that you are seeking. A verification case is then opened, whereby the agency tries to manually verify with SAVE that you are eligible for the benefit that you are seeking. Usually this is done by mail which is very slow and usually takes weeks, but there is a new pilot program being run by SAVE whereby they can attempt to do the verification online. As part of this program, the agency give you a SAVE case number (which, if you click through the link you gave, you need to enter to proceed), that you can then use to monitor the state of this verification process yourself.

As I said, SAVE is not a database that the public can access, and that's still the case even with the verification site. All you can do is monitor the progress of your SAVE verification if you fail the normal check for whatever reason.

I think OP is confusing the SAVE database to the I-94 database via DHS when he/she is saying he can't find the info on "save database"..as VWP do not get assigned a I-94 anymore.

I would wait at least 2 weeks after you get your EAD In the mail by the way. Heading there asap will only delay the overall process, they won't find you in the SAVE and would have to manually verify you which could take upto a month.
