"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

So quick to judge the man without knowing the full details...tsk, tsk, tsk...

I have no idea whether the number cited for Gore's house is correct, but let's assume it is. The 10,656 number comes from data published by the Department of Energy. But it's an average of all households nationwide (including apartment units and mobile homes) and across all climate regions. As it turns out, the region in which Gore lives--the East South Central--has the highest per household energy usage of any climate region in the country, a good 50% higher than the national average quoted in the press release (I assume this is due to the combination of cold winters and hot, muggy summers). So that's misleading in and of itself.

Moreover, Gore lives in a large home (10,000 sq. ft.). If you look at the data, it's clear that Gore's energy usage per square foot (even assuming the 221,000 kWh number is accurate) is well within the average range for his climate region. So all this accusation boils down to is a claim that it is somehow "hypocritical" for Al Gore to live in a large house.

Richard, honestly...this is nothing more than smear campaign in attempt to discredit Global Warming. I mean really - does his personal use of energy have ANY bearing on the scientific data that he used in the documentary? (You did watch it, right?) If you saw it, you would have seen him talk about his family's tobacco farming and later his sister's lost battle with lung cancer. Some could say he was a hypocrite when he spoke out against Big Tobacco because of his family's history...but when you dig deeper you see a person's evolution of thought and understanding. Technically speaking, we're all a bunch of hypocrites to one degree or another.

Exactly! (That's my 'Amen' for the day...)

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Marc, congratulations on your marriage! I didn't even know she arrived yet! :star: I'm happy for you brother. How does she like Tucson?

Yes she arrived with no problems that she mentioned, she's making Russian speaking friends in Tucson which in a way is good but I worry how that will affect her English.

She's liking it so far, wait until the summer when she's wanting to get away from the heat! LOL

We both liked Anaheim though...Oh what fun that was...though we did spend way too much there! Oh well, it was her first time there and my second time...I'll have to post photos from Disneyland...eventually! =)

Look. Al Gore can afford to take is house off the grid. If any human on the planet should do this it should be Al Gore. He only started recently to practice what he preaches because he was caught not buying green power. If he took his house off the grid it would shut a lot of people up.

I agree with you on the hypocrite part.

I'm sorry but there's nothing more ludicrous than UK Tory leader David Cameron's 'green' approach - make a point of being seen riding a push-bike to work, while your chauffeur follows at a crawl carrying your briefcase.

We agree. I recall seeing that story.

I love that this cites Wikipedia. Nothing says well thought out and factual like a Wikipedia citation. Oh, and blogs too.

So you have refuting facts? You have looked at them? I have seen both sides quote off of wiki and blogs as sources... so again, can you refute what the blog says? or just want to toss out "Oh its that kind of site!"?

I never said I agreed or disagreed with their point, but thanks for the assumption  Truthfully, I do tend to disregard anything/one who uses cites Wikipedia, and I certainly don't feel bad about that. It smacks of laziness and inaccuracy to me. Wiki and blogs are questionable sources at best and I prefer something a little more solid.
