I am also in same situation. my interview was august 2015, everything was perfect as CO told me. but they said your case must go through AP. My visa is CR1/IR1 I e-mailed them and got standard reply like this. actually as i heard if your name is common Islamic name, Like MOHAMED they mostly make background checks and your case may be sent to concerned security agencies in US. so the CO waits the reply from those agencies so that's why it takes long time to issue visa. so Be patient and keep praying.

No. It has nothing to do with your name. There is a certain criteria which is already been defined years ago by DHS and if you fit that criteria then your case will go to AP and this is not even in the hands of Embassy since Administrative Processing is done by DHS. There will never be any delay in letting the candidate knows about the AP results since the DHS AP integrated with State Department and embassy get update as soon as DHS updates its data.

Everybody goes through AP, some quicker than others.

I have a question I have applied k-1 visa ( if any one has other category visa also share experience regarding AP) How long is AP STATUS being updated on CEAC website ??

By saying that I mean I know it has to be in AP for several weeks ,months etc. but if the date changes often on CEAC website under AP STATUS ,is it a good sign & if some one know Or have experience to share that normally after how many date changing ..they finally see their status changed from AP to either APPROVED /DENIED ??

I disagree. I've read some threads and have seen some timelines (mostly from Afg and Pak) that they were approved.

Based on my research, AP is at the discretion of the CO. It's based on if they decide to run Security Advisory Opinions (SAO's). There are several SAO's they can perform and each takes different lengths of time to come back. I have read that once an SAO is started, it cannot be expedited, revoked, or stopped. (I don't know how true that is.)

One Pak post said the USC's husband had a background check that said he had been stopped in Florida for a traffic stop; however, he was never in the US. So the scope of the background checks they can run can be extensive. Sometimes cases are not put in AP at all; unless of course, you count the AP that means "We are printing your visa now".

Khan is not in that kind of AP, but I really hope you get yours soon! You guys have been waiting for so long!
