My fiancee is coming in 10 days, and Penguins are just getting started, going there for sure! Zoo is a great idea too! I'm betting you went to Kennywood :)

Ohhhhh what a fantastic topic because this goes through my mind constantly. My husband is from Egypt but from a very traditional city about 4 hours from Cairo. First and foremost he's never been on an airplane; I'd love to be able to go and travel back with him to experience his first time flying. Secondly, Egypt's landscape is obviously very different than the US so i can't wait to see his expression just seeing abundance of trees, grass and open fields. (i'm from Iowa). Another HUGE difference is traffic; if there are any traffic laws in Egypt I'd be surprised....it's pure chaos and very noisy in the streets with cars honking all the time and vehicles and motorcycles literally bouncing off each other half the time. The traffic here is QUIET as we don't honk at each other all the time, we drive in straight lines and in the city that I live in, most everything is closed by 10 pm whereas everything is 24-7 in Egypt. I can sit out on my balcony at night and not see a single person; you would never ever have that in Egypt. So I think the quiet is something he will have to get used to and the fact that we have regular working and sleeping hours here.

The food. Every time I go to Egypt I literally lose at least 10 pounds in about 2 weeks time. Their food is all natural and not loaded with the ####### that we inject into our food here. I expect he will gain 15-20 pounds after some time of living here.

There are so many differences when immigrating from a third world country and I am dying to experience all the "firsts" with him. I would compare it to sharing ice cream with your baby for the very first time only in this instance the "child" is fully grown and can express all the excitement and wonder he is facing. It's absolutely fantastic!!!

I pray to God that everyone here gets to experience these magical moments with their loved ones.

Target, my fiance has been dying to visit it. She's so excited to see all the clothes, bedsheets, etc. She thinks Target sounds like a godsend practically lol. After that she's dying to try each and every junkfood place we're famous for in the U.S. Burger King, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, etc. Basically we're each gonna be twice the size as when we entered the country lol.

Hmm I am sure China has some locales of equal scrutiny....

My wife and I visited a lot of nice places in the US before we moved back to China. I think when we move back I'll take her to visit the Michael Brown memorial in Ferguson. Seems like an exciting place.

Walmart and a steak house. Steak isn't a big thing back home and he's always wanted to see what the fuss is about.

He doesn't believe all the weird ppl that shop at Walmart or the fact that you can get ANYTHING at 2am- everything back home closes by 6pm.

We're moving to NYC soon after he gets here so hopefully we'll be able to get there before Christmas so we can go see the tree at Rockefeller Center & " How the Grinch stole Christmas" at Madison Square Garden. Even though I've lived there before it's been a few years so we both get to play tourist around the city.

Hockey games are really fun in person, even though I'm a novice fan. Detroit Red Wings games were always a blast and never a bad seat. It'll be close to winter so all the amusement /water parks will be closed. :( I'm pretty close to the worlds tallest water slide or something. Too bad my market doesnt have a hockey team, close to soccer team though so sure will try to do that...when season starts again

I want him to experience a delicious sub or sandwich because he enjoys subway in Asia but the meat is not the same. It always the main food I miss when I lived there.

I really want to take him to an amusement park during spring because he going to have so much fun and be in shock on how high and fast the roller coaster go. We went to a water park once in thailand and the rides were not that tall so I ready for him to see the difference.

Also he really excited about experiencing Black Friday even though he not a big fan of consumerism but he like I want to see the crazy and also get those great deals too.

Where my fiance lives in Guyana, the only food around is sold at a bazar style street where once a week everything is laid out on rugs. I have been trying to explain to her places like Stop&Shop and Walmart but she can't grasp the idea that these places can exist. So that will be one stop. Already been said but take her shooting. She has never felt temps below about 60 degrees so that will be interesting (Connecticut) and take her to the mall to show her the giant clothing stores (JCP, Macy's). And last but not least, the bank. She has to wait hours upon hours to get any money from the bank since everyone in town gets paid on the same day. She honestly might be most excited about not having to wait in line, and being able to just use a card here ;) besides seeing me of course.

I will have the pleasure of flying back with her which will be her first time on a plane.

so many walmart votes, ironically its the last place I want to go;) They have some mega stores there that are typically multi level, so I dont think walmart would be that much diff. Maybe I'll take her to Amazon.com

I think we're going to *have to* go to Ikea. Sigh. I suppose it is an American tradition of sorts: move, unpack, go to Ikea.

We need, at a minimum, another dresser for him but probably a wardrobe. 1810s homes didn't come with closets standard. And somehow in my months of collecting winter clothing for him (being from the tropics, I don't think he's seen a wool sweater in is life, let alone owned one, so I've hitting up the clearance sales online all summer-- turned out to be a genius idea), I neglected to realize that we have no place to store said clothes.

Other than that, I think walking around the neighborhood to get the lay of the land, carving a pumpkin, going to a hockey game, learning the Metro and hanging out at the local pub are all going to be in order in the first few days. I've got some flextime from work so I think I'm going to work only half days for 3 of the 5 days in his first week (and off 2). So I suppose he'll take the Metro into work with me, go to a Smithsonian museum and then meet me for a late lunch on those three days.

Marriage/ AOS Timeline:

23 Dec 2015: Legal marriage

23 Jan 2016: Wedding!

23 Jan 2016: "Blizzard of the Century", wedding canceled/rescheduled (thank goodness we were legally married first or we'd have had a big problem!) :sleepy:

24 Jan 2016: Small "civil ceremony" with friends and family who were snowed in with us. December was a bit of a secret and people had traveled internationally and knew we *had* to get married that weekend, and our December legal marriage was nothing but signing a piece of paper at our priest's kitchen table, without any sort of vows etc so this was actually a very special (if not legally significant) day. K-1 Visa Timeline:

PLEASE NOTE. This timeline was during the period of time when TSC was working on I-129fs and had a huge backlog. The average processing time was 210+ days. This is in no way predictive of your own timeline if you filed during or after April 2015, unless CSC develops a backlog. A backlog is anything above the 5-month goal time listed on USCIS's site
