Hi,

My husband is the immigrant. We are at NVC stage now.

I was wondering what is a good time frame to begin applying for jobs in the U.S.?

We were hoping he could start work immediately...less than 30 days upon arrival.

I have read and been told that the green card stamp acts as his work permit, so there is really no delay in that manner, correct?

Do we have to wait for actual green card to come in the mail before he applies, attends interviews or starts work?

Do we have to wait for actual social security card to come before he can work?

Thank you.

He will need a social security number to begin. Most larger companies would want to have the number to bring someone on. A smaller place may be willing to wait. Most people aren't aware of visas, etc. So he may have to provide a bit of education regarding his eligibility.

As you know some fields are easier to find jobs than others. The sooner you start looking the sooner you can find something.

Okay, thank you.

His field of work is engineering; electrical, electronics engineering, even though he has skills as a handyman and is good with hands, and we plan on searching for warehouse jobs.

I will look into it.
