Booking tickets for my fiance and baby in Manila for return to U.S.

The point is moot since I've already purchased tickets. I do read widely on VJ and have taken many opinions into consideration.

Reading the forum there are various answers to my questions. The docs from USEM, is, as you point out, quite specific. However, a platinum user said "you should book it online as soon as possible". He had booked after approval of his fiancé ,which he did not say in this post, so may have thought I was in the same position although that cannot be inferred from my post.

So, apparently I made a decision based on another poster who said visa was in hand in 5 days in most cases.... I did refer to knowing the advice about not booking until visa is in hand....

My apologies for my unfounded accusation of brow beating. I'm just very concerned about the situation since I've read, as I said, various suggestions. I always hope for the best put prepare for other circumstances. I think I will be able to call Asiana in Manila to change our bookings if that is necessary.

Thanks for your help.

Jim

I am positive you can call and change, move seats, do anything you like, how much it costs depends on the stipulations of the ticket you bought...Some are non-refundable or come with a hefty change fee, and some are not even open to the option of changing, but the seating arrangement is usually not an issue. PS, take an exit row seat if possible, its business class in economy

I hope all goes well, I suggest when reading about another's experience do remember no two visas process the same. Also make note of the type of visa, as visas are not all processed the same. Many immigrant visas are issued the next day after the interview which is how they receive their visa in 5 days, that is not normally the case with a K-1 visa. Like said I hope all goes well.

Well...here is my story so you can go on. My fiancé's interview was Sept 16, then it was just approved and received October 10, then the earliest we could schedule a CFO meeting was October 15. Now here is was my thinking, I would take 3-weeks vacation in Manila and landed here Oct 1 thinking the visa would be received earlier and we could still make a quick trip to Singapore before we leave on Oct 15th. Luckily I didn't book her and her daughter's flight yet and only mine, but I still have to call my travel agency and make a 2-hour long distance call to the USA to rebook mine then purchase theirs. So again, the decision was my own and I had no other choice as I was pressed for time. But if you can afford to keep rebooking tickets, the headache of doing so, and more importantly the stress of worrying everyday if not only to get a passport but allow enough time for her to do her pre-travel things then more power to you

Our interview was Oct. 21. We were asked for one additional document. Her name was spelled differently during her employment so they required an NBI clearance for that name. We got it yesterday, will send as instructed via 2Go later today. Hoping all goes well after they receive it.

Still up against the clock after my stupid mistake of getting return tickets for Nov. 2. Will call USEM to see if the processing can be speeded up. Her cousin has called the local number, always got through and inquired about our case using the MNL number. Very helpful and have the information we need.

Just praying all is approved in time...

Expect a couple week delay after they receive the document.

The embassy won't speed things up because you bought tickets.... ;)

Lead a horse to water...

Do not finalize arrangements for travel to the United States, dispose of property, or resign from your job until a visa has been issued and delivered to you.

What's your point? I've already read that. I've read it several times. I get the point and the message. Alright????? I've admitted my mistake... Alright????

I've been literate since at least the first grade. I don't need a stranger to make me feel worse. If you have nothing constructive to say, then don't reply.

Please....?????

Thats why I told my better half I will be there to get her when she has visa in hand. Told her if she could handle the interrogation she got at her CFO interview she could handle the embassy interview no problem on her own.

Ouch, Hank rubbing salt in your wound.

It's worth a try to contact the embassy to ask them to speed things up. Maybe you'll get lucky and talk to someone that's sympathetic to your mistakes.

The worst they can say is no.

My wife's K-1 visa didn't take long to get to us....8 days. But, it had an error on it, so we had to send it back and wait for it to return. About 3 weeks total from the interview until getting the visa back the 2nd time.

Thank you! The 2GO agent said the embassy should receive the paper we sent, NBI clearance for a different spelling of her name, by today, in Philippines, Saturday.

We will call the embassy on Monday to see if anyone there can help speed things up. They were very accomodating during the interview process, all friendly and very helpful!

Thanks for your encouragement! It is appreciated!

Jim

The reality is that you have not been here from the beginning and you had been you might understand Hank's remark is stared with a little more emphasis then was is normal for him. And, for Jim, he is frustrated as he has found himself taking 2 steps forward and 3 steps back to resolve many problems along his journey. Some have been his doing but most have not. You can chalk it up to bad luck. Sometimes we have tried to help but sometimes our recommendations may not have been considered. Anyway he's going to get this corrected and he'll have is family with him soon.
