Timeline

Hi

I am in US since November 2014 . In april i go back to my country as my mom was not well. I stay there about one and half months . I am green card holder which is valid for 10 years. Now i am planning to go to see my mom in January for 20 days so when my husband should apply for my citizenship. I was told by someone that i should apply in 2017 but my husband said that by the end of 2016. please i need advice no bad comments.

I have IR-1 visa

Count 3 years minus 90 days (not 3 months) from your resident since date on your green card. Thats when you can apply for US citizenship if you are married to a US citizen for 3 years and he has been a citizen for at least 3 years.

You cannot become a citizen before November 2017, and then only if you are living in marital union with your USC husband.

You can apply 90 days before, so sometime in late August 2017

Your short visits abroad are irrelevant.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Thanks a lot for advice well my husband is US citizen since 25 years and we were married now almost 4 and half years and will be in 5th year next year.

You can apply 3 years minus 90 days since you become GC holder, look at last line on your green card.

12/31/2014: Fingerprinted

02/06/2015: In-Line for Interview

04/15/2015: Passed Interview

05/05/2015: Oath letter was sent

05/22/2015: Oath Ceremony
