I am wondering how long does it usually take to get an appointment date for Haiti. As of now there is no spots available. Since the last people who talked about had December dates I am worried out of my mind. Our petition expires in December!!What if we get a date after the expiration date? How would that work, would we have to get an extension, how??

The consulates can extend petition validity for up to a year, in 4-month increments. When you get your appointment, ask them in writing to let you know that they're extending your petition's validity. That will put your concerns to rest, at least.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

So the petition can only be extended if you have an interview? I'm asking because my fiancé and I need an extension. Our petition expires at the end of October but we cannot schedule an interview yet because he cannot complete the online DS-160 form because he doesn't have an updated passport. He can't get the passport because he is having an issue with his birth certificate. I've emailed the consulate in Jamaica twice over the last 2 weeks and no response. What can we do?

Thank you TBone. I will ask them that when I email them again tp get Packet 3

Our petition expires in November and our interview date is in December. When I expressed my concern to the consulate, they said it doesn't matter when the expiration date is as long as it's at the consulate because the can always extend it.

Thanks for the response, I feel so much better knowing this. I will try to let them know as well so it doesn't come as a surprise to them. By the way, how long did it take for the consulate to receive your petition? Mine has been in transit for 10 days now.

Hi, is there any way you can contact them by phone? If you could talk to a live person, I think you might get better answers. If anything I would try to call NVC to know if they would know anything about since you have to fill the DS160 on their site. Good luck, and you can keep us posted :)

Thanks for the response. I actually called USCIS and NVC the both directed me to call the Consulate in Jamaica and so I did. I got someone on the phone in Jamaica who told me to email my issue then wait 5 business days for a response. It's been over a week now. I'm going to call again tomorrow. Will keep you guys notified. :clock:

Hey,

As a follow up, my fiancé went to the interview and was approved. He was there on line by 6:30 am and was out by 10am. Seems like most of the questions came from my letter of intent. They asked him about my religion, where I worked, where my father resides. Pretty much basic questions that anyone engaged should know. Good luck on your interview. Be on time and walk with all your documents.

Did they tell him when he's going to get his passport?

Thanks for the update. I am getting so nervous about the interview. Let me ask you this: did your fiance need his passport to do the medical exam??
