Hi VJers,

So, I got my passport out already. Should I remove the whole plastic around the yellow envelope?

Your only responsibility here is to get your passport out of the bag. Best way is to make a slit along the bottom of the passport, just long enough to gingerly remove the passport and not disturb the integrality of the entire envelope. Once the passport is removed then and when, you will put it in your carry on luggage to be safeguarded till you arrive on US soil at your POE. Do Not let anyone open your packet till you meet with a immigration officer at your POE!

Good luck, Safe travels and welcome to These United States.

Can you take the envelope out of the plastic? Yes.

I do not recommend it though. I suggest you keep it inside the plastic, tightly wrapped and taped to protect it from tearing as much as possible, then put it safely away in your carry on bag for your flight to the USA.

Now that is a can of warms that you just opened. Yes you can open the plastic, but why give anyone a doubt to whether the paper envelope was ever tampered with? Best to just slit along the passport using a razor blade, just long enough to take out the passport.

Where did you ever get the idea that the plastic bag is if any importance? Heck you can remove everything from that plastic bag and toss the plastic bag. No one cares!

The plastic bag is just a plastic bag, nothing more. The manila envelope marked DO NOT OPEN is the open item that HAS to be protected... for that I recommend keeping it in the plastic bag.

if you're careful with the envelope, you don't need the plastic bag.

But you might want to bring it anyway. Find out if your fiancé can recycle the plastic bag.

That was my point "keep it in the plastic bag" for protection. :)

That wasn't how your post read.

Only issue to watch for with the DO NOT OPEN envelope is easy to see... it's tore. Don't want ANY tears in it.

Plastic bag would have been a nice memento but boarder patrol kept the whole thing. Of course my asawa was too afraid to even think about asking for it.

As a sidelight... Anyone know how to print the chest xray on the CD? I played around with the included ap from Siemens, but didn't see anyway to print.

Did you try the print screen button the keyboard? Hit that then paste into a photo program, word processor program or such... then actually print from there.
