So I think that Dave and I will have to have a sponsor because 1) I'm a student and 2) even though I've been making the required about of money in British pounds since I moved here in May I don't think it will count cause I wont be filing US taxes on it and 3) cause I will continue to be a student when we move back to the US for the wedding.

Anyway, that's not my question really. My question is this: Since we'll have a sponsor (my mom) do I -the US fiancee) have to fill out an I-134 as well as our sponsor? Does Dave have to fill out an I-134? Or do we only need to submit one, from our sponsor?

Thanks Guys!

Sorry about all the questions, but this I-134 thing is hard!

From the guides here on VJ: "The foreign fiance's income can NOT be counted on either affidavit (except when the foreign fiance has been

living with the fiance, married, and in the US for six months)...IF the foreign spouse has LIVED IN

THE HOUSEHOLD of the U.S. spouse for at least 6 months, then his/her income CAN be counted. There are

NO situations involving fiance visa in which foreign spouse's income can be counted, as far as I know, when

interviewing for the fiance visa or when filing adjustment of status within 6 months of arrival in the US.)"

Dave and I have been living together and have been sharing a bank account for almost a year now....but not in the US, in the UK.

So is that saying that we can count his income for the I-134 cause we have been living together for over 6 months -in affect he has been living "in the household of the USC".

I'm just confused cause it doesn't specifically say that it has to be in the US that we've been living together....

Anyone know? :help:

The US Citizen MUST file an I-134, even if you have a co-sponsor. And the co-sponsor must file an I-134. The beneficiary's income is not at issue here. The Gov't wants to know that the beneficiary will not need to go on Public Assistance after arrival here due to non-support. So it is on the US Citizen to show that the required financial support is in place.

There is no requirement that the USC fiance/spouse complete an I-134 as well. The I-134 is not like the I-864 where there is scope for joint sponsor. This is a perpetuated myth on VJ. There is no joint sponsorship rulings for the I-134. The I-134 when used is used in part to show that the applicant will or wont become a public charge.

Marina,

Every consulate is different. London e.g. will accept self sponsorship. Check with others going through London for specifics as I don't have my hand on the info right now as the search function is malfunctioning.

Thanks! Oh wow! I'll definitely look more into London allowing self sponsoring! That would be GREAT news! It's just frustrating cause we've been sharing a bank account for almost a year now and all of our funds are so mixed...plus I think my income might just miss the line. Blah...stupid form.
