Define "Copy" in relations to Marriage Certificate

I have researched and getting mixed responses on the forum/internet.

My wife and I finally got our official marriage certificate (fancy paper with logo). When sending out our forms for her process, do we need to send in the actual copy or a xerox photocopy?

03/06/2015: SO came in on B2 Visa (expired 12/05/2015)

08/21/2015: Married in Los Angeles, CA

12/05/2015: Sent I-130, I-485, I-131, I-765 to Chicago, IL

12/13/2015: NOA1 for I-130, I-485, I-131, I-765

01/04/2016: Biometrics for AOS *completed*

01/28/2016: Biometrics for EAD/AP *completed*

02/19/2016: I-765 - EAD Card in Production

02/24/2016: I-765 - EAD Card Was Mailed

02/26/2016: I-765 - EAD Card Received

03/10/2016: I-485 Interview

05/11/2016: I-485 Approved, I-130 Approved

photocopy (xerox copy) DO NOT send original anything to USCIS or NVC when you get there. You will also need copy at NVC. Original will be taken to interview.

Be wary of ever sending in any originals. ...unless explicitly stated.

In general a certified copy is safest bet, search your state/county office on how to get a certified copy.

Seriously don't know why everyone says "Certified copy". Xerox is fine.

A photocopy will do, that's what I and countless others have done, no issues, make sure it's a color copy so it's easier to read is my personal advice. They will request the actual certificate at the interview only. (The USCIS/NVC will tell you otherwise if they fell they REALLY need a certified copy but never had or heard of this being an issue).

Send in copies of everything UNLESS stated otherwise. Originals are only needed at the interview.

09/08/2015 - Medical Done in Toronto with Dr. Lyndon (Highly recommend! Easy to get too via the subway). All clear there! Waiting for it to come in the Mail
09/25/2015 - Visa APPROVED!

Total Time Taken (Till Interview): 1 Year 10 Months

Point of Entry/Green Card Delivery

09/26/2015 - Back home from Montreal, waiting for LOOMIS delivery to pick up VISA
09/30/2015 - Visa Arrived in London, ON for pick up; Visa in hand!
10/01/2015 - Flight Booked! Moving date is October 7th!
10/07/2015 - POE @ YYZ (Toronto Pearson International). Waiting on Greencard delivery

 

2019 UPDATE : Going Home to Canada. Process for their application took 4 months. Smell ya later USA. Won't miss ya.

Yep, a color photo copy is what pretty much everyone uses. You will need copies both at USCIS and NVC plus the original for the interview.
