Hi everybody!

Soo... I was wondering if you could just suggest some temp jobs I should look for in the US. I'm sure we will come up with stuff on our own...just curious to get some of your ideas ;)

Most likely I will be coming through JFK with the purpose of getting my EA stamp. Actually, it looks like this option is also cheaper ticket-wise. I will be staying in the US for about 90 days located in Chicago southern suburbs.

I speak/write good English, Estonian and speak Russian well. I've worked for Americans in Estonia for 10 years and will be getting references from them :) Umm...well I've been secretary/administrator/translator for my church for 10 years... Organized national youth events, different conventions in my country. Another thing in my responsibilities has been desktop publishing (which I will hopefully go to school for as we've settled in later on this year) - designing fliers, brochures, ads etc (I have a portfolio of what I've done so far...)

Right now I'm mostly interested in getting a temp job for about 2 months...so I can make at least SOME mulah :) yep

Any ideas? I'd be curious

Thanks!

V.

There is a way to get extra cash...there is this website that basically pays you to click links and sign up for stuff. Like for instance, you click a link to sign up for ebay and then after you bid on one item, they pay you 8 dollars. Little things like that. Some are just basic clicking link after links. and some links you have so sign up for, and then cancel right away. I got lured to it because it didnt cost anything to join them and i get to click whatever links i want. (they give you a big list and some things pay as high as 45 dollars and others just a few pennies. Anyway its pretty interesting and they have this referral thing that if you sign someone up, you get 20% of whatever they make and 10% of whatever the person under them makes. Your not going to get rich off this but you could make a few hundred per month which is better than nothing. Anyway here is the site.

Don't bother with that " cash link. " It's a waste of time. Do piecework at home awhile.

Why did you say that its a waste of time? Isnt money money? Shes not looking for a career and it its something she can do whenever she is bored. I mean yeah, some of those links are not worth clicking because you have to give your credit card, but there are plenty of links where you dont. Like the poetry.com link where you write a quick poem and get 1.15 for doing it. Shes not going to be able to pay the bills on it, but how often do we sit at home bored with nothing to do. You click the links and make a buck or two and its simple as that. Its better than peicework (whatever that is)

I would say just apply to as many temp agencies as possible, they have a variety of vacancies and they can almost always find you something. Some of it may not be that glamourous (I remember doing three days of envelope stuffing at one point...), but they actually pay pretty well and it's a good way to get experience in the american workplace. Right now I'm working in a property management office through a temp agency, and I'm really enjoying myself!

I did that cash link before. Made a lowsy few cents. Not worth the time. Plus, identity theft is major with those types of stuff. Unless you want people to steal your information, I don't even suggest doing things like those.

I agree with the post above about Temp agencies - I have had a lot of success with them. And because they get paid if you work, they are usually fairly quick and agressive about finding you a job. Its always possible that the job will turn permenante as well.

I did that cash link before. Made a lowsy few cents. Not worth the time. Plus, identity theft is major with those types of stuff. Unless you want people to steal your information, I don't even suggest doing things like those.

What information are they going to steal? You never give anything more than yoru name, email, address and phone number. You never give you Social security number or mothers maiden name. There is other stuff to that site too. There is a referral program where you get 20% of what your referral makes and 10% of what their referrals make. Plus there is a link for when you want to go online shopping that you get a certain percentage back. Like if i was planning to go to wal-marts website, i would go thru the link on that site and get 5% cash back, or if i was going to subscribe to a magazine i would go thru thier link to magazines.com and get 35% cash back. Theives need your Social security number to steal your identity and mothers maiden name. You never give it at this site.

As for you saying you made a lousy few cents, i dont know what you did wrong but it was obviously not the same website. I probably spend 20 or 30 minutes per day on that site and average about 5 dollars a day. Not alot, but like i said, you do it when you are bored, or have time to waste. Its nice to get a check for a 100 bucks at the end of the month, dont you think?

There are absolutely loads - Adecco and AppleOne both have offices everywhere, so I'm sure you should be able to find them. For the others, I would just do a goole search for temp agencies in your area, becuase a lot of them are just one off little ones and so don't have well known names. Also, put your resume on monster and career builder, because a lot of agencies go on there to find people to fill their vacancies. The job I'm in now was through TAC worldwide, which is an internet based recruitment agency.

Good luck!
