Sorry Jen but I'm about to bump Thursday up :)

I plan on sticking around for awhile at least to help those out who are going through Cairo. It's such a frustrating embassy to deal with that I'd hate for ppl to go through it blind. Support is always needed to deal with them. I know I'm extremely grateful for all the support I've gotten here.

In this case, the bump was deserved.

I hope more people have your line of thinking. So important to give back...

I don't think I'm too terribly helpful, but I stick around if someone needs a shoulder. As far as the rest of the rubbish, it has lost its charm and I've disassociated from it. All said, at the end of the day, this is a hard process and support is here for those who need it. As far as it supposed to being on forum... too many times I have been, and have watched others be, shredded on this forum for so much as an innocent question and I know for a fact many I've conversed with privately have stated that as the reason they don't post it publically. Too many "chicken pickers".

I can understand that, but I think it's just asking for trouble to not have things out in the open and able to be corrected or added to.

This is really sad. This is my second experience going through the visa process and throughout the years I"ve come back and forth. If for nothing else to cheer on / help others. I got really upset at a so-called friend of mine, I basically did her k1 package. Never an RFE nothing. All I asked her to do was to stay active in the groups and holla at me once in a while, now that I'm going through the process again. I was worried this time around I may have gotten rfe's or something. Her man has been here since early January. SHE NEVER CALLS...never posts in any groups - nothing! I even sent emails letting her know I feel so blown off, no response. I am praying she calls me with AOS questions so I have let her have it.

Years ago (and a handful of you may remember me), this forum was awesome - still katty, but very informative. Today...well it's just not the same. But I'm not going anywhere! So if I can please reach out.

1st K-1 Journey:

June 2005 - filed

October 2005 - visa interview

March 2006 - AOS packet mailed

June 2007 - Interview

--------

2nd K-1 Journey:

07/28/07 - AOS paperwork mailed

07/30/07 - Received at lockbox

09/18/07 - Biometrics

10/15/07 - Transferred to CSC

01/09/08 - AOS approved w/o interivew

11/01/09 - Lift conditions

11/01/10 - interview to lift conditions/10-yr card

01/01/10 - 10 year approval

DIVORCED

I agree with Jen, also. A few times ppl have had petitions denied or extra long AP and everyone panics. Without going into too many specifics, it's helpful to share personal visa stories with the forum. That way the newbies don't get too discouraged or upset when they see the xtra long APs or the denials.

People who help in pm do so for the reason you stated, also, some of the folks have been ignored here, or their english isn't very good. It's been hard for me to watch some posts sink with no real answer, so I pm them and offer help. I've been approached in pm for translations, personal consultations, and referrals, as well as visa advice. Some folks don't feel comfortable posting here, or posting personal info here, for whatever reason; that's just a fact, but they still need help. I've been collecting info from MENA threads, government notices, and other sources for more than a year, not to mention paying close attention on other boards. It's not brain surgery we're doing, it's bureaucracy. After a while, it's not so intimidating anymore.

I can understand why some ppl prefer PMs, however, it does a disservice to others who may be too shy to approach someone via PM or to post. Some ppl just lurk to find answers. More ppl benefit when visa issues are addressed on the forum.

Same reason that chat is limited to off-topic discussion. I think it also even poses legal problems. I'm not sure about the details, but it has been discussed before here on VJ.

I understand, but if they don't want to post in public, they won't post in public. I know there are lots of things I won't post here because I don't feel confident in the responses I'd get. So, those stay in pm. I know I'm not the only one, even among regulars, who feels that way.

There are many that dont post in public, because i even have made many acquaintances and have talked about many subjects off the side. As far as advice i can only share what i have done or i can direct them to who i think will help, because they helped me. Most wont post for that exact reason as it was called "chicken pickers" and the not wanting to share every detail with the world, it doesnt take long to learn. Any information here can vary from case to case and i think is always taken as just that, what worked for you may not work for me. But as has been seen here lately there are still good people here to help when they want to ask and i think a few more will start to "come back out of the woodwork" now that things are calming down.

BTW, I don't know if anyone noticed, or if anyone cares, but Private left, too. She had a really frustrating and hard case, was really stressed out, and could use more support. I tried to help her and give her encouragement, but, on the boards, she was made fun of and dismissed, so, she finally got fed up and closed her account. Not everyone makes an announcement or has someone make an announcement for them when they leave. There are probably more than we know of.

Maybe she also left because she broke up with her Moroccan fiance to find a man who could satisfy her. So much for true love

I'm sorry if this offends... but the last post is an exact example of why many do not post. I agree, Jenn, that it would be more beneficial to all concerned on this entire forum if everyone could post without hesitating.

Again, I apologize. I have no problem with the poster, just the post.
