Hi Everyone,

Grr...Just a little vent here to say that I wasted 2 hrs of my time and money in printing and mailing costs to fill out the Canadian tax returns and Canadian leaving/departure forms. What a waste of time and money!!! Also given the the extra fact that I made no income for that tax year and that I gave them the information even though I didn't have to, but was the proper legal thing to do, makes it extra frustrating. Damn forms! Damn Cannucky government! :angry:

Oh well, on the bright side, that paperwork-wise I don't have to deal with the Canadian government ever again!!! Yahoo! :D

Sorry about that, as I just needed to vent.

Could have saved ur self trouble by not doing the NR-73,lol I should get my act together and do my USA taxes.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

It's never a waste of time to submit your tax return, since there can be many times when you're asked to provide a history. When I came back to the U.S. after decades in Canada, I was asked for 7 years of back tax returns when I applied for a job! They wanted to see a history of employment. How's that for a wacky request?

Even if you had no income, it's crucial to submit an exit return or Revenue Canada could deem you taxable until you do, no matter where you live.

Lol...actually the NR-73 was the easier of the two for me, as I don't like dealing with numbers and it was easier to explain that I left the country it in words than in numbers. And yes, the next challenge is ahead: US taxes...uggh....

Good luck on your immigration journey. True, about the tax return providing a history, hence I've kept my tax returns for all those years. Hmm...good thought...I never knew about the employers asking for that such a wacky request. Lol..an extra reason to do them, I suppose. Yes, I know about them deeming me taxable, hence I submitted them as I thought it was the proper thing to do (besides, I don't want to get in trouble with the government up there). Lol..how come they have to tax everyone in Canada though, even though there is no income. Sure, if they want to collect on $0...lol.....It doesn't make sense...
