Hey everyone, this is my first post! (How exciting lol.)

So, our case is kind of taking a while. I submitted the application in February, and I recently got the first approval notice almost two weeks ago. (Took 210 days just for that.) I've been constantly checking on the USCIS website for any recent updates, and as I logged in today, it tells me that on Sep. 28, they sent my case and receipt number to the Department of State for Visa processing. Since I'm new to all of this I'm not exactly sure what means? Can someone kind of fill me in on what to expect, as well as time frames for this? Because I am right now active on a Kidney Transplant waiting list and we're kind of holding it off until he gets here, and I would like to know how much longer because this will be my second transplant within 2 years and it's kind of a delicate situation I'm in right now.

One more thing, who do they start contacting for what the visa centers need? I read that the consulate contacts him. His phone number has changed since we submitted the application, can I email the NVC with an updated number just to be safe?

Hello... Now that u got your approval letter u should wait about 30 days and if within that time the nvc does not send you a welcoming letter then you need to call them and ask if they received your case..however if you received any welcoming letter there it should tell for the next steps ...I am in the same position at the moment ...

Your case has been approved by USCIS and sent to NVC for processing. You need to read the guide Ryan H posted a link to and prepare yourself for the NVC phase.

Just a thought, couldn't you get an expedite based on your medical situation?

This is what it says on NVC's website about requesting an expedite:

"If a visa is available for your relative’s category, and their case involves a life or death medical emergency, processing of your case may be expedited. To request a review for expedite, please submit a letter (or statement) to the NVC from a physician (or medical facility). The letter must include the physician’s (or medical facility’s) contact information, and declare a life or death medical emergency exists. This documentation may be in the form of a scanned attachment to an e-mail."

I wouldn't email them though, because they have a three month response time to emails. Best is probably to call NVC and see how you can go about requesting an expedite asap. Or send in a letter from you requesting the expedite along with the physician's letter, using registered mail.

I would think you waiting for a transplant would fall under the life or death medical emergency category.
