Student loan services

Previously having attended university in the UK and dropping out to continue my journey in the USA, I was wondering what generally has to be done to repay student loans over there? I know there are ways to pay this money back, but the process involved is so dawning and confusing. I'm wondering if anybody has had this predicament and what they did to repay student services back in the UK once you have started working? I went through the student loans company (typical way).

I left my uk bank account open and once I sent in the information about how much I was earning I set up a direct debit to pay them automatically.

The first year I was here I didn't earn anything and told them that, they said I didn't need to pay. Then they sent a form asking for an update and I sent that and they determined I would now pay.

I will say they are idiots and couldn't understand my offer letter became a contract once I signed it so I had to wait for three months till I had enough pay slips for evidence. In that time they had freaked out and got their overseas collections department involved who sent a snippy email, this was easily resolved as I pointed them to the direct debit I had set up and paid the first installment by debit card.

The forms are on their website to report you are now overseas and to change your address. Be warned the correspondence section where you can supposedly read the letters they sent you on the website doesn't work well and you can't rely on it.

I set up the direct debit online through their website and it was really easy because you don't need to talk to them.
