I've read the wiki at least five times last night and just the amount of everything that we need to collect as soon as possible is just overwhelming. I read that he needs to show US domicile since he lives over here and what he needs to show them but I just don't know how we are going to do that. The only thing showing that he is from over there is that he has an American passport and birth certificate and that he renewed his drivers license two years ago and he knows his social security number by heart. He doesn't have any other connections other that his family and friends live there. He doesn't even have an American bank account.... He moved over here because we wanted to be together as soon as possible and it was a lot easier to get him over here. We figured we would do this process once our finances got better.... Breath breath :)

Than have your husband start working on that.

  1. Where are you going to live? Lease letter between you and whoever you will live with?
  2. Job offer for husband?
  3. If you have children enrollment in school?
  4. Bank account?
  5. Voters registation card he can apply for now and get that.

Alot he can be doing now get the ball rollin.

Tell your husband to go online and apply for a US bank account. That's really important. He really has to show he is re-establishing domicile.

Gym membership, Library card all kinds of things.

FYI, my husband had a similar domicile issues. He lives with me in Sweden, only has a an American DL, Tax returns and nothing else. No bank account, no voter reg. No house, no jobs, no nothing. He even owns a biz here in Sweden. We typed up a letter similar to one shown in the Wiki on that we are taking "steps" on the domicile thing when we get there, stating we will live with his parents, no lease.

We passed without a hitch, or RFE. I'm not saying it'll work for everyone but thought I'd let you know since I also stressed out about the domicile issue.

Took me a while to find it but here is what I used and I used it as best as I could with our limited info:

NAME
SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
FORM I-1864
No. 15 Country of Domicile

I, XXXX , am currently residing in England with my husband and his two children. Below you will find a list of attached documents to show that my principle residence is in the US and the steps that I have taken to return to the US with my family.

Steps I have taken to maintain US Domicile:
• Maintained my XXXX voter registration
• Maintained my XXXX credit card registered in the US with a US PO box
• Maintained my XXXX credit card registered in the US with a US PO box
• Maintained my bank account at the XXXX Credit Union
• Maintained my bank account at XXXX Bank
• Maintained my XXXX drivers license
• Maintained my US retirement fund through XXXX
• Maintained my US investment account with XXXX
• Maintained my US PO box
• Maintained licensure by the XXXX
• Maintained membership in the XXXX
• Maintained my automobile in care of my parents

Supporting Documents for the above steps I have taken:
• Voter registration card showing permanent US address
• XXXX credit card statement showing US billing address
• XXXX credit card statement showing US billing address
• XXXX Credit Union statement showing permanent US address
• XXXX Bank statement showing permanent US address
• XXXX drivers license showing permanent US address
• Retirement fund statement showing permanent US address
• Mutual fund statement showing permanent US address
• XXXX license currently up to date
• Renewal of XXXX membership
• County tax bill showing I still own a vehicle

Steps I have taken to return to the US to take up residence:
• Made arrangements for us to have a house to live in
• Contacted schools for requirements of things to bring to register my children in school
• Contacted my auto insurance company to find out about re-instating my insurance on my car
• Contacted shipping company for estimate of costs to ship belongings

Supporting documents for the above steps I have taken:
• Lease agreement for our house
• Email from schools regarding registration requirements
• Email from my former auto insurance company regarding my inquiry
• Email from XXXX with estimate and correspondence regarding shipping our belongings

I declare that I intend in good faith to re-establish my domicile in the United States no later than the date of my husband and children’s admission into the US.

I certify under penalty of perjury under the laws of the United States that the statements in this letter and all accompanying evidence are true and correct.

Thank you for sharing this!! It gives me a little bit of hope :) He has ordered the voters card and he managed to open an account with the Bank of America and they will send a debit card to his dads house. His dad will forward all mail, even junk mail, to us in Sweden. The thing that gives me the biggest headache right now is the fact that the person who was supposed to become our sponsor can't do it and no one else in his family reaches the poverty level even with a joint sponsor. We haven't saved 5 times the poverty level ourselves so.... we'll just see what happens :)

When you calculate the people in the household with a co-sponsor, make sure no one includes your husband in that household. In other words, if it's your in-laws, mom, dad, then they'll be counting the household as 3 with you, the immigrant.

Ah did not know that, but I don't think they will reach the poverty level any way... but I'll have them take another look :D

I hope you can solve this quickly! Btw, how did your husband go about to sign up with BoA from Smeden? We would really need a bank account so we Can transfer money before moving. Thanks!

That was the only easy thing so far :P We went to the website and clicked on enroll. We put in his dads address in the US, because that is where we intend to be living and on "country of recidence" we put Sweden. To activate the account they require you to transfer $250, we just used my credit card for that, you can transfer the money afterwards from an account if you want to do that instead. If you don't want them to charge you every month you have to put in $1500. The debit card will go to his dads house but we've told him to send it over here :) To get the entire account number and the swift code you ask for it in their question bar with the little looking glass. Good luck!! :D
