To be honest this is where political correctness is a problem - it makes people deny their own beliefs.

People (all people) are prejudiced about something or other and it comes out in various ways. Not necessarily overt hatred, but subconscious beliefs that make, for example, someone cross the road if they see a black guy, or feeling uncomfortable if they see gay people holding hands or kissing in public.

It doesn't specifically mean that those people are racist or bigoted, rather that they aren't perfect.

As long as a person understands why they have those reactions and doesn't use them to oppress others, it's really only an issue for the individual.

The people who are vocal about their prejudices - the gay bashers and race hate groups, they are a whole different animal.

I don't think so. PC is only referenced when it's minorities involved. No one worries about it when the person is white, Christian, and Heterosexual. Because there's no call to dehumanize that demographic. If you do a google search, you'll never see PC being brought up in that reference. It's only used when it's Black people(it's not PC to call us Thugs, N-word, or ghetto), Hispanics( It's not PC to call them Illegal, even though they're American citizens), Muslims(terrorist, rag head, etc) or gay people(F-word, **, and God knows what else).

PC just ensures you don't disrespect someone different than you. If someone's complaining about it, they're mad they can't say what they really want to say...

I know the words to this song from looking it up. Still resonates today...

Sure. No what I meant is that it's not the done thing in our society (particularly online society) for someone to admit that they have prejudices. You just aren't supposed to have any.

Understood.

in a small attempt to answer what i believed were legitimate questions, i have found that the fine folks here have the propensity to use negative attention to portray their thoughts and feelings.. however troubling, we all face struggles in life, and perhaps one day these posters will realize that all the wisdom in the world will not replace inner peace.. brow beating others, and their relationships and innocents can never lead to satisfaction.. misconstruing one anothers observations as though they were their thoughts can also not change the truth of the statement.. i encourage those with negative attention in their toolkit to seek a deeper understanding of themself, rather than simply shifting circumstance to benefit their current objective.. thank you

I don't always get my posts deleted on V.J., but when I do it's a good indication I was right and they couldn't handle it !!!

Huh?

Sorry, just this answer is perplexing. You said that you can't cure the need to feel superior to each other. Which kind of reads like there's inherent desire to be bigoted towards people who don't look or live like you. On a website in which almost everyone here is married to foreigners, yourself included.

So how about this. Instead of quoting some random person who just made it more confusing, just say in plain words what's your feelings about the current topic. I assure you, that would clear a lot of this up.
