Disgust at homosexuals and gay sex is homophobic. It's the correct term and the correct meaning.

I just found it interesting that you made reference to a "homosexual mindset". I'm curious to know what you mean by that.

funny, different reputable sites have differing definitions,, but name-calling only temporarily boosts the ego of the user..

"homosexual mindset" should be self explanatory, as would literary mindset, or faith-based mindset, and yet I believe it possible to find all 3 in the same person.. we see evidence of feuds that have existed for thousands of years, and few look past their own mechanisms long enough to offer acceptance to any side but there own..

will justification of rage in any of these differences ever subside long enough to sense the underlying shame of human discord??

I don't always get my posts deleted on V.J., but when I do it's a good indication I was right and they couldn't handle it !!!

It's not self explanatory imo. If someone said heterosexual mindset what would it mean to you? It doesn't mean anything to me. Being straight isn't a conscious choice, likewise I don't think that can be claimed for gay people either. Mindset suggests a thought process that can be changed...

Im interested because you've used that phrase in relation to someone being 'disgusted' or 'repulsed' by homosexuals for their mindset. Is it the mindset they are disgusted by? From my experience, people aren't disgusted by the thought processes of gay people - they are disgusted by the idea of gay sex.

For example, theres a stereotypical thought process among some heterosexual men that the idea of two men having sex is disgusting, and further - that if they meet a gay man that it must follow that the gay man can't control themselves and will want to have sex with any man. Thats why some men act awkwardly around gay men.

However, if you find yourself disgusted by the idea of two gay people having sex - its reasonable to ask how much time you spend thinking about the sex lives of other people, both gay and straight.

It is homophobic IMO.

Hmm. I spend most of my free time thinking about the sex lives of others... Is that really homophobic???

If you are in an interracial marriage and you want to learn a specific term for moral repulsion and disgust, all you need do is ask any white supremacists staring you down in public places. The would argue these are what are truly felt by them. You don't need to rely on someone else's experience for that.

funny how "homophobia" is bandied about as a branding iron.. but it's definition is "fear, hatred or mistrust"

I bet most have no fear, little if any hatred, and trust isn't an issue as we are all human..

perhaps we need a word for moral repulsion or disgust, as I would argue these are what are truly felt by those that value their stand against the homosexual mindset.. however, I don't have a word to suggest.. any suggestions??

Which is really the most interesting point about the discussion. People who purportedly fell disgusted about gay sex seem to spend a lot of time thinking about it. In fact, that seems to be true of anyone obsessed with the sex lives of others, regardless of orientation.

If such people were labelled racist for having those views would there be any dispute that it is an accurate term with which to describe it....?

As much dispute as a homophobe having opposing views about homosexuality.

I think that as in the case of racism, it is not really fear, but really a secret desire or attraction for the object of their alleged loathing.

Attraction in some cases, sure. More generally I think the desire to fixate on the perceived flaws of others is a device for avoiding any sort of self examination. Do they really find gay people disgusting, or is it for some other reason that they find themselves disgusting but can't admit it or don't understand why they feel that way.

Behavioural conditioning is prevalent in our culture - be it from parents, teachers, even the military. Behaviour reinforced by reward and punishment, quite apart from whether the conditioned behaviours reflect who we are.

It's not necessarily that such people are secretly gay. For example, if you're an alpha male type and have a kid who likes poetry or books, you might parent them in such a way to make them ashamed of it by imposing and reinforcing on them the idea that such activities make them less of a man.
