backstory-

Got married yay! that's all done with.

Got my EAD yay! that's all done with.

Finally went to SS 6 weeks ago to change my last name to my new married name.

Had proof of name change (EAD), SS man was thankful that I knew to bring it.

He said everything was fine and it would take about 4 weeks to get my new card with my new name.

So I put off Taking my driving permit until I have it.

After I went to submit my name change, my Green Card was approved! yay!

So for now everythings done, just waiting on that SS card.

Until today.

Got a letter today saying.

"We have received a response from the department of homeland security concerning your request for an original social security number with the name change for marriage. please go to the cleveland united states citizenship and immigration services located in cleveland ohio with the documents that you submitted to us. you will also need documentation that shows your immigration status"

Now I've had my SS number since I was 4/5 years old. So I may be reading the "Original social security number" bit wrong in them thinking i want a completely new number. I know you get one number for life.

I'm just wondering now what the hell is going on.

All I want is my last name changed and Now I have to organize with my Husband a time to travel over an hour away to give them all these documents and for what reason?

This is just a pain in the ###, and has actually made me pretty angry that again we have to drive pretty far just to hand in documents.. that they've already seen apart from my Green Card. But surely they can find that all in the system anyway?

They don't even say if we need to make an appointment or anything.

Has anyone had a letter like this when all you're doing is changing your last name?

My Name is Daisy, I am British, I say things bluntly and to the point.

I wonder if they checked your status documentation (EAD), but by then USCIS had you down as a permanent resident so a different status than what you provided to Social Security. So you didn't match for SS purposes???

Maybe go back to Social Security local and get a supervisor to clarify the problem and what going to USCIS would accomplish. And maybe if you go back with a greencard they will find that status in the database and you match now. Use the exact same name as on the greencard.
