Who plans on living outside of the USA?

I was just wondering if anyone else here has considered and/or will be living in their non-US-citizen spouse's country in the future...just curious....my husband and i plan on moving back to belize and starting a family in about 5 yrs--we are in the US to save money and further our educations so we can lead successful lives in a third-world country. We also wanted the visa so we could travel back and forth to visit family, whereas before, Steven would have never been able to even take a vacation with me in the US. If the US is only temporary for you, why?

We have chosen to live in Belize for many reasons...we are environmentalists for one, and have land down there and secondly, want to raise our kids in a less-materialistic place, in the hopes that they will grow up valuing different things in life...has anyone else chosen this path?

Yes we're here for education reasons. We might stay here or we might move to Europe because we have some citizenships there and in some ways fits us better. We'll see

I'm leaving too. March 15th. Mostly because this country is no longer America. At least not the one I grew up in. It used to be populated by normal people. Now its full of whacko, idiot nut jobs.

I'm going to China.

BTW, for the environmentalists, why would you go to Belize? That sounds just a little off kilter.

definitely down the line we plan to go somewhere else. we both love to travel above all else...so the idea of living in different places is really exciting to us. either somewhere new or back to my fiance's home country. not sure yet!!! but i don't see myself in the US forever, thats for sure!

what do you mean exactly? we would return to our organic farm in Belize. I am also active in Belize Organics Producers Association, in developing an organic industry there...there is plenty of land and eco-research potential, great for universities, studying plants, herbology, etc...sooooo many reasons to choose belize, as an environmentalist--and did i mention it is absolutely stunning? :) when i could never afford land in California, this makes the most sense.

Oo oo Rey really wants to live there too. He argues that since it speaks English and has the seasons at the "correct" time of the year (i.e. Southern Hemi) it's the perfect place for us. We'll see if he gets a job over there or something

I think you're right that many people don't last in their spouses country....however, i think it might be different for those of us who have actually lived in the other country before. when you move to a different country, there is always going to be a slight sadness of something missing from your home country.

Joel and I plan on moving to a small area just outside Yarmouth, Nova Scotia eventually. As for the whys...I've been there enough to know I love it. It feels like home to me, more so than here in Georgia. I have no immediate family here in the States now that my parents are gone and all of Joel's family is there. Joel wants to go home eventually too, and the idea of living there very much appeals to me. Hopefully when that day arrives our daughter will want to move with us - she'll be all grown up by that time. :)

yep, I hope that we can move to (Toronto) Canada some day. Sooner rather than later would be nice. For the same reasons as Karen and Joel. All my family is there, and I'm missing my nephew's and niece's entire lives. James has never even met either one of them. :( My husband's parents are both dead and gone, and he's not particularly close with his brother or his niece (who is grown btw). His brother lives across the street from us, and I hardly ever see him. He only comes over when he knows I'm not here, and won't answer the phone or the door if I call him.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

Our plan is to wait for Ed to finish school (in like three years or something) and then consider moving back to england. He was there for two years with me and he loves it there, so there is a distinct possibility that we will be moving away from here. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving living in California, but I'm not sure it's the place I want my kids to grow up in. And it's cheaper to have babies in England... As much as people diss the NHS, I miss it!

But the cost of living is more expensive here, taxes are madding, councils that do not do much of anything, yob behavor, police having little powers since the goverment has taken it away, a disorganized immigration and criminal system, a materialistic society (yes it does exist here) and too fast paced for me (from a small community in Illinois) .

My Sister-in-Law has a friend that works at the local hospital here and she had a baby and a few weeks later she and the baby had to go back to the same hospital because she contracted MRSA there. What is more important having a baby cheaply with a system that is struggling or having the peace of mind to have quality?

These are the reasons why we are wanting to move. This may be suitable for some but not for me. I have had enough of being on a cloud and I need to come back to Earth.

Never say good bye with tears....just say see ya later with a smile........

OH is planning to take early retirement, I'm waiting for citizenship, and then we're out of here. He went to school in London and has lived in Paris but who knows where we will end up. First stop is back to the UK and then we'll see where life takes us.
