221g Affidavit of Support co-sponsor - using permanent resident

Hey there

Has anyone ever had issues using a permanent resident as the joint-sponsor for affidavit of support. My husbands best friend has lived and worked in the U.S. For over 4 years and has been granted his permanent residency and he's willing to be a joint-sponsor. He makes well over the mininmum requirements for this.

Also - does anyone know how long it take Defoe Montreal to review these things and issue a visa ? The guy who interviewed me stated as soon as they get it a visa will be issued the next day but I've read some mix reviews on that.

I want to make sure that using the joint sponsor with permanent resdency is ok - it does state that it's an option on the form.

Any input from you would be greatly appreciated.

was he legally working and paying taxes before he got his GC? I'm not sure that would count

I was a LPR for 3 years before I became a joint sponsor to get a good job, pay taxes and make enough over the poverty guidelines

Yes he was legally working. He was in the U.S. On a work visa before he became a permanent resident

Just for future reference - I spoke with NVC who clarified that it is OK to use someone who's been previously sponsored who can prove that they are indeed a LPR and have sufficient funds to sponsor the said person.
