Hello fellas,

I petition my mother and I got a letter today saying that she's approved. And that her case was forwarded to NVC. But the letter didn't say anything of what should we do next. I don't have any idea on what to do. The letter says they will contact my mother (beneficiary), but I don't know how.

Please, give me some ideas on what should I do now that she's approved. Thank you in advance!!!

Hi,

I am assuming that you filed an i-130 petition for alien relative for your mom. On that form, if you can recall, they requested contact info for the relative - this case, it's your mom - so that is how they will get in touch with her to schedule the interview. So, no worries....just keep in touch with her and let her know to expect a phone call from the embassy that will be conducting the interview.

It is optional for you to attend with her.

IR-5 has not been approved yet. You hasn't even started the IR-5 application yet. By filing I-130 you just told the DHS that you have a relative in a foreign country and you would like to bring your relative to US. Now NVC will compile a packet of documents and send it to the Embassy/Consulate closest to your Mom's current location. After that the embassy will send your mother a packet of documents with instructions on how to apply for IR-5 visa. She will need to fill out some paperwork, pay visa fee and pass a medical examination. When everything is completed, she will attend the interview after which the visa should be approved and issued to her.
