Were they Visajourney members, too? [snip]

ye gods, no.

josh, a mormon, brought a russian lass into usa, got married in vegas, went to mexico for honeymoon, and could not return to usa with his lass.

any vj member would know better.

I imagine the couples (the petitioner) are paid, so that may be a good reason for being on the show.

I have also heard that it is in the neighborhood of $7000. Which is not an insignificant amount of money, but when you look at what they're going to do to you.... I'm just not sure I want $7000 that badly.

Yikes. Really? I wonder if the show is going to go over that part of it! Where did we hear about this?

Marriage/ AOS Timeline:

23 Dec 2015: Legal marriage

23 Jan 2016: Wedding!

23 Jan 2016: "Blizzard of the Century", wedding canceled/rescheduled (thank goodness we were legally married first or we'd have had a big problem!) :sleepy:

24 Jan 2016: Small "civil ceremony" with friends and family who were snowed in with us. December was a bit of a secret and people had traveled internationally and knew we *had* to get married that weekend, and our December legal marriage was nothing but signing a piece of paper at our priest's kitchen table, without any sort of vows etc so this was actually a very special (if not legally significant) day. (L)

16 Apr 2016: Filed for AOS and EAD/AP (We delayed a bit-- no big rush, enjoying the USCIS break)

23 Apr 2016: Wedding! Finally! :luv:

27 Apr 2016: Electronic NOA1 for all 3 :dancing:
29 Apr 2016: NOA1 Hardcopy for all 3
29 Jul 2016: Online service request for late EAD (Day 104)
29 Jul 2016: EAD/AP Approved ~3 hours after online service request
04 Aug 2016: RFE for Green Card (requested medicals/ vaccination record. They already have it). :ranting:
05 Aug 2016: EAD/AP Combo Card arrived! (Day 111)
08 Aug 2016: Congressional constituent request to get guidance on the RFE. Hoping they see they have the form and approve!

K-1 Visa Timeline:

PLEASE NOTE. This timeline was during the period of time when TSC was working on I-129fs and had a huge backlog. The average processing time was 210+ days. This is in no way predictive of your own timeline if you filed during or after April 2015, unless CSC develops a backlog. A backlog is anything above the 5-month goal time listed on USCIS's site

14 Feb 2015: Mailed I-129f to Dallas Lockbox. (L) (Most expensive Valentine's card I've ever sent!)

17 Feb 2015: NOA1 "Received Date"
19 Feb 2015: NOA1 Notice Date
08 Aug 2015: NOA2 email! :luv: (173 days from NOA1)

17 Aug 2015: Sent to NVC

?? Aug 2015: Arrived at NVC

25 Aug 2015: NVC Case # Assigned

31 Aug 2015: Left NVC for Consulate in San Jose

09 Sep 2015: Consulate received :dancing: (32 days from NOA2)

11 Sep 2015: Packet 3 emailed from embassy to me, the petitioner (34 days from NOA2).

18 Sep 2015: Medicals complete

21 Sep 2015: Packet 3 complete, my boss puts a temporary moratorium on all time off due to work emergency :clock:

02 Oct 2015: Work emergency clears up, interview scheduled (soonest available was 5 business days away--Columbus Day was in there)

13 Oct 2015: Interview

13 Oct 2015: VISA APPROVED  (236 days from NOA1)

19 Oct 2015: Visa-in-hand

24 Oct 2015: POE !

15 Dec 2015: Fiance's mother's B-2 visa interview: APPROVED! So happy she will be at the wedding!

Were they Visajourney members, too?

What I really don't get about these couples is that they *had to* know what they were getting into with this show. Season 1 folks, I can see. They had no way of knowing the sensationalist spin TLC would add (although.... one could guess....). Season 2 folks, less so but again, it was new, everyone thinks that they present "normal" or "interesting" at worst. But anyone can spin *actual* normal into sensationalist trash, what do people think they'd be able to do with "interesting"? Season 3 folks. They saw. They knew. They HAD to know that TLC is looking for chum in the water. I can't imagine cirsumstances under which I'd personally take that risk.

All that said, I'm glad for this show. I'll admit it, I love the drama. Not sure why (don't generally watch reality TV for "drama" reasons). And sometimes it's just really nice to to comparatively feel like you've got your "stuff" together, you know?

Yes some are visajourney members who ae indebted to this site for all the valuable information it shares.

Imagine that couples who see the show do not feel that all look unfavorably or that one is going to look bad just because they seek drama. Yet I cannot speak for others but I can tell you that we just thought it would be a unique experience and were not too worried about depiction because we are a real couple who dealt with alot during the visa process. The drama exist but when does it not, tv will amplify it and views will assume more than what the see.

According to the regional threads here on VJ this seems far from being that abnormal....or you just suggesting this particular couple of people?

The normality or accpetance of age gaps varies by societes and countries. My girlfriend is much younger than me and my mother and some friends were suspicious at first because of the age difference and I was actually concerned about when I first met Carolina. Although, all my previous relationship was with someone younger, Carolina was more so even for me. I was somewhat embarrased when I met her parents and worried that I would disrespect the father, That said, in Colombia age gaps are not frowned upon and families ctually welcome a significant age gap if they like the man and even the woman.

That said, my only issue with age gaps is if its predatory. I understand how an age gap can occur naturally or be incidental because it was for me. Yet I do believe their are men and women who preying on younger or much younger partners and in particularly poor countries.

So not sure yet what to make of the 58 year old and his Filipino girl but they she does look smitten. I will get to meet them eventually and give an exclusive on VJ but keeping an open mind.

You will get to meet them eventually and give an exclusive on VJ?

The 'predatory' relationships can go the other direction too.

Good point! The predatory behavior can go both ways and actually have known of an example of it and did not think of it when posting. Imagine it something prevalent or exists anywhere.

Yes I will eventually meet him and maybe give an exclusive on VJ, at least give a first hand assesment. Yet will not be able to offer any spoilers but definately believe most relationships on the show are legit.

I don't think it's the same couple. I researched a bit and found this:

and here is some info here:

Oh, just found this too - it's definitely not them:

The new season doesnt look as good as last the couple look so out of place. not a right match up like they were randomly picked.

I thought the same thing. They definitely were looking for a caribbean match up. I was contacted last year for this season but when we got denied, i didn't hear back from them.
