Hello,

Once again thanks everyone for the support over the last year.

My fiancee is here in the US now and we are getting married next week. She wants to use the traditional name format with her family name becoming her middle name after marriage. Do anyone here know the process for getting this done? She already has a social security card , so this will have to change also.

Thank you!

Marriage license will be the first one for ID

Then when you do AOS you do it there also, for immigration purpose

It's simple.

When you file for the AOS, you put her MARRIED name. If you are using the traditional naming convention of FIRST NAME, MAIDEN NAME, MARRIED NAME, then this is what you will put on all of her AOS forms, including the EAD and AP.

When you receive the EAD/AP card, return to the SSA office and apply using her MARRIED name...this name should already appear on the EAD/AP card.

Done.

The name change starts with the marriage, some states require you to use only your maiden/single names on the marriage certificate. After marriage - All you do is start using your CHOOSEN married name on all forms and documents, and if you don't want issues when dealing with the Philippines you need to use the TRADITIONAL married name format (given name, maiden surname - as new middle name, husband's surname as wife's new surname)

Complete all your AOS forms in your new married name, once you get your EAD or green card you can go back to SSA and get the SS card changed to your married name. File AOS as soon as possible, that will make life easier.
