Omg, I forgot about the free refill thing! Hubby loves that!

No, no, no, it is soda, or "coke" here! We use coke as a term for all sodas around here. As in.. "What kind of coke would you like?" "Oh, I'll take a Dr. Pepper."

No, No, NO. Those are all the reasons why you are wrong. Even you when reading that knows, it doesnt make sense. Admit it, don't perpetuate it.

Don't perpetuate what? Local slang? Sorry, myself and almost everyone I've ever known has said it that way. Perhaps my wording will change if I move, but for now, it doesn't bother anything or anyone.

Anyway, this thread isn't about slang or local colloquialisms, so I'm moving on and going back to work. Have an awesome day everyone. :)

Jon wanted me to add with whatever emphasis I can:

FOOD!!!!

Every visit he comes he has a new favorite restaurant. From his last visit it is now Smokey Bones, before that it was my mom's home cooking (yes he considered it a restaurant because he thought it was that good), and before that its any place that serves Burritos (though my homemade burritos still tend to be a favorite).

I know there are a few things he will miss like amazing fish and chips, but there are a few things for him we can find here :joy:

Ya Im interested in introducing my fiance to new foods, going to be weird when I have a bad habit of sticking to what i like and not trying every different thing (like at subway or whatever restaurant...once I find a good dish I kinda stick w/ it) Unfortunately I'm trying to not eat out as much lol.

A real big ol steak.

Greasy horrible for you bacon.

Tons of different kinds of cheese

The amazing fish tacos at Twisted Fresh

PS No water pressure, exp gas and no drink refills and bad food? WTH I thought England seemed so cool ;)

We use coke as a term for all sodas around here. As in.. "What kind of coke would you like?" "Oh, I'll take a Dr. Pepper."

Same in Texas, or even "Co-Coler" (for any coke).

Mrs. T-B. was pleased to find Inca Kola here, in the international sections of supermarkets. It's approximately Mountain Dew with more of probably a slight banana flavor. Hard to describe, but quite good. It's not Ecuadorian, but rather Colombian.

Mrs. T-B. was also impressed with our quality and variety of ice cream. However, both of us agree that Ecuador's chief brand, Pinguino, is probably superior even to Blue Bell here.

People say 'co-coler' ?...never heard that before I dont think. Nor Fizzy.

Im a Mt Dew fan (not super fan) but I love me a super cold super fizzy mt dew. I kinda hate bananas though I remain intrigued...I may have to search and try this one just to know first hand.

Pop is definitely a lot better here in the states I'd think. I like the Jauritos Mexican POPs, well most of the flavors.

In VN they have a tamarind POP that they market like 'root beer' but its only sorta like root beer. They also have legit 7-up, but they translate it as Bay Up, (7= bay, pronounced beye) and I had to yell at my cousins why they only translate 1/2 the name. took me days to sort out what people had been saying cause they dont translate Coke or pepsi...etc. Up = Len and no one says Bay Len. So I guess VN has some slang too lol.

Other cultures definitely have some 'interesting' flavored ice creams thats for sure!

Daquiri Ice from Baskin Robbins is my fave though.

Same in Texas, or even "Co-Coler" (for any coke).

Aside from visiting me, food was pretty much the highlight of all my husband's trips to the US. All he does is talk about the food, like he literally planned his trips around going to particular restaurants  Now that he's here his complaint is that there's just too many good places to eat in NYC and not enough time.

Oh, his other complaint is the lack of poutine here; he really really misses poutine.

With Canada being so close, when I went to visit him I was really surprised that many of the (nationwide) restaurants we have here didn't exist there.

100% agree with your husband - I never really went out to eat much back in Canada but Americans do love a good dinner out and they do it well.

I have to laugh at my Canadian family and friends - they think it's 'special' to go to Applebees and TGI Fridays (not!) or Olive Garden.
