I am the petitioner for my husband. For the affidavit of support, in the federal tax return what do I put if I was dependent on my parents tax return for year 2012 and 2013. I was a student at this time. In the year 2014 , i had no income since i couldn't find a job. I wrote a letter saying that i do not have tax returns in 2012 and 2013 since my parents claimed as a dependent. In 2014 , i had no income i could not file taxes. Is this letter ok explaining why i don't have tax returns.

That should be fine. Do you have a well paying job now you can document with paystubs and a letter from the employer?

As long as the co-sponsor makes comfortably over the poverty line and has paid taxes, you should be ok.

Yes, that is perfectly fine. I am literally in the same boat as you (I am currently a student and work a part time work study job right now). At the time, I had not worked in 2012. I did not start my work study job until 2013 (8 hours per week during the school year), and I made way, way below the required amount to file taxes, plus my parent's always had claimed me on their tax returns anyways. I submitted exactly what you are talking about, and we never had any troubles. My husband has been here now for over 6 months, we adjusted from K3, and he now has his green card. So, we never had problems. Just, as said above, make sure your co-sponsor fits the poverty guideline requirements.

Good luck!
