Question about moving with car to USA from Canada

Hi all. I'm a Canadian citizen. My CR-1 Visa just got approved and I intend to drive down to the USA in my personal vehicle.

I called vehicle manufacturer (Dodge) and they can't give me a letter of compliance to EPA standards because I have only owned the vehicle for less than 6 months. I have purchased vehicle in May 2015. So its been four months in my ownership at the time of the writing of this post.

So I'm wondering if I can still drive down to the USA with my vehicle.

Will I be allowed through the border?

I have my visa, proof of vehicle registration, bill of sale, etc... proof that I own the vehicle.

However, I don't have manufacturer letter.

What will happen if I pull up to the border booth without the manufacturer letter?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Taking an Imported Car through U.S. Customs

You need to have all of the documentation for the vehicle with you when you cross the U.S. border. You will be sent inside the Customs building to fill out form CBP 7501 and possibly others. You can find copies of these forms on the U.S. CBP website.

Customs officials will inspect the car and make sure it matches the paperwork you submit. The whole process will probably take a half hour or so if there are no problems.

To safeguard against importation of dangerous pests, the U.S. Department of Agriculture requires that the undercarriage of imported cars be free of foreign soil. Have your car steam-sprayed or cleaned thoroughly before shipment.

Duties and Taxes to Import a Vehicle into the United States

Most vehicles made in Canada or the U.S. are not subject to duties. For foreign-made vehicles you will likely pay the following

Hey Clim2009

Pls can u tell me how many day u got ur Passport/Visa after your VISA interview ..Thanks

If it all goes smoothly, a month or two. If not, you get a letter saying "we need this or that document, etc..." and then youd have to send missing docs... and then wait again a month or two before they reply back...
